Should I configure Kodi with 2160p (4K) or 1080p resolution (upscaling)?
I am also looking for this. Got good information here.

What about now? It's been 2 years. I'm running 18.5 on nvidia shield. Should I stick to recommendations on the first page?

TV res @ 2160p (4k)
Kodi gui @ 2160p (4k)

2160p content perfect tv shows output 4k.
1080p content when playing movie for first time I set video view setting to normal expands then to full screen i only do this for any 1080p once and my tv shows 1080p>4k upon playback is this not correct? Auto render setting and auto upscale method selected aswell.

Using Kodi 19 hrd Matrix alpha build
Windows 10 latest insider build
Latest Nvidia game ready 45#.. driver

What exactly is the problem running Kodi with higher resolution? On my Linux HTPC I have a GT1030 and run Kodi UI at [email protected] and it looks and runs perfect on 4K TV (recent Panasonic model).
Although the difference is minor, I believe it looks better than with 1080 and letting the TV do the upscaling.
Same for 1080p content. And of course 2160p.

I'd say, give it a try.

Ditto.

Is the statement now still true on the first page?

I'd say try both and see which works better for you. I prefer to run Kodi at 4K resolution as my box does a better job than the TV, but it's different for everyone's individual setup. Let your eyes see both & make the decision based on what you see.
