Hello Forum,

does Kodi need a permanent internet connection during operation(playback), if sound and movies are already named according IMDB and TVDB ?

Thank's a lot for any feedback!

The simple answer: no. Only during the 'scraping' of your movies/music into the Kodi library will Kodi require internet access for getting the meta data for your media files.
Kodi does however check for updates on addons (and possibly itself, depending on the OS/build you use) during the start, so the setup can be make up-to-date. No internet, no updates.

Or to put it another way - it's perfectly possible to operate Kodi entirely offline, just using locally stored content.

And all metadata scraped for your library of files (which obviously needs to be done online) is stored locally too, so you can have your media on a local drive, scrape it whilst online and then use that media (with full metadata) from that drive whilst offline (I do it myself using a WD MyPassport connected to a Pi Zero running LibreElec whilst on business trips to stop myself going hotel stir-crazy on CNN and BBC World).

Add-on downloading, streaming, version updating and metadata scraping are the only things that actually need a net connection.
