This is generic KODI issue but since I use it on Raspi its here.
I have problems managing subtitles with different Character sets.
Very rarely I find Macedonian subtitle. Its Cyrillic character set. Most of the time I use Serbian and Croatian language.
For Cro and Ser languages the character set need to be to Central European (Windows) but for Macedonian need to be set to Cyrillic (Windows).

Here is a semple of what I need to see:

I remember in the old dimes at the start of the .sub or .srt title the character set could be defined. Is this still a case for KODI?
It is pain in the arse to go all the way to Settings/... to change that setting just to see correct character set from time to time.

Is there any way for quick change, even batter, why Cyrillic is not put into Central European character set?

Much better to put it in a general channel. Many devs will read the general channels but not the platform specific channels they don't use.

I thought of that but Im not sure if this is more subtitle or kodi in general. Anyway some mod please move this to more relevant forum so we van continue with the actual problem. Thanks.

Well, you know historically 8 bits were used to represent the characters used in languages, and also some of the possible combinations were reserved for obsolete control messages. Of course with 8 bits per character you are limited in how many characters you can possibly encode. Making things harder, accented characters were/are treated as separate encodings. So there are now standards-defined 8 bit encodings including ISO-8859-2: Central European aka Latin-2 and ISO-8859-5 aka Cyrillic. srt subs are a bit dumb, in that they only contain text and no meta-data about what encoding is used. So filename has typically been used to communicate the encoding to the user. The better solution is to encode the srt in UTF-8 unicode encoding, that way you can encode just about any possible character you could possibly want without knowing what language is involved. Of course, your display font has to contain instructions on how to render the character.

I guess Kodi could guess the character set to use from the language code but I don't think that is available.

Update:  Maybe should add, that subtitles can be placed within mkv file containers, in which case the Mastroka spec requires that the subtitle text is to be encoded UTF-8, which would make character set determination unnecessary.
