Changed from PLEX to Kodi - One "problem" regarding automatic library updates
#1
Hi

So i changed from PLEX to Kodi and im loving the transistion. I like how its so much more customizable.

However i have one big gripe. PLEX is very good with scanning folders for new movies. I use Nvidia Shield TV, and  i feel Kodi isnt very good with new content. I have tried the addon Watchdog, but it doesnt seem to work as intended. And i usually have to restart to populate widgets etc with the new stuff.

This is not a problem for me, but my wife doesnt like it, she wants here content right there.

I have also tried automatic library updater. But thats not "smart" and just update on x hour interval. So if i get a movie at 18:01, that wont pick it up before hours later.

Also if the shield has been in standby/off. When i open Kodi again i feel it scans many times.

Anyone have a solution for my issue?

Thank you so much

How do you get a movie? manually? Can you reduce the interval for re-scanning to perhaps 15 minutes?

I have written custom scripts to notify Kodi of a download to initiate a scan of that specific item. If you have your system automated, I could give you some pointers.

You've definitely hit on a weak-ish point with Kodi.  As with the other poster, I have some python scripts to tell Kodi to update after certain events (in my case it's when a DVR recording as done, as I integrate my recordings into my library instead of using the Live TV recording section).  That works for me because my DVR app lets me run a script post recording.  So it is going to depend a bit on your sources, but more seamless and immediate scanning can be done with a little work.
