I have been investigating the current implementation of the MPAA listitem field for videos with regards to displaying appropriate Classification icons in skins. Currently how skins show these icons if they choose involves a large amount of $VAR code which is slow and only covers a small number of possible countries classifications. Also, while there is overlap between skins on which countries they support, there are some countries supported in some skins but not others. Basically its a mess and not particularly useful to most users at the moment.
I have made a proposal in this thread detailing a formal scheme for filling the MPAA listitem field. As a first step in making this happen I have produced and had accepted into the main Kodi repo a image resource file to provide appropriate named image files of a number of classification icons. The resource file is called "resource.images.classificationicons.colour" and is now available in the "Look and Feel" section of repo under the "Image collection" sub headings.
For user to gain the most benefit from this resource file they will need to update their MPAA field to use the new naming scheme, thus the request for a conversion addon to allow users to easily update the field. As detailed in the thread above, there are currently ways for a user to achieve this renaming, but it is not particularly user friendly.
Would someone be willing to take on the project to provide a list of relevant classifications for their selected country on a video by video basis. And as a stretch request, allow the user to run the addon over their entire video library, removing file system reserved characters from the MPAA field to allow the use of the above mentioned resource file.
Hope someone takes this on.
