I visited their home page and I already hate them for false advertising. It says there "Mezzmo is a free, feature-packed and flexible media server" when the software is, in fact, not free but costs 27 dollars. A "free trial" doesn't make a software free. Since Kodi itself is free most Kodi users probably won't want to pay money anyway but I guess it's up to the forum owners if they want to allow that kind of advertising. Well, Plex and Emby seem to have support threads here, too, and they are commercial solutions.

I can't / don't speak for them and don't want to get into this discussion deeply here but Mezzmo offers a free version and a pro version which have different features.  Many other UPnP solutions do the same.

Thanks,

My bad. I did look for such a comparison but did not find it, so I assumed. In the words of the great Benny Hill: "If you assume you make an ass out of u and me."

No biggie.  We all do.  At my advanced age more often than I'd like Smile  Out of curiosity I took a look at the free version vs. the pro version to see what features someone might want when looking at a Kodi Mezzmo UPnP approach vs. Kodi SMB approach , since most of the Kodi functionality comes in the addon I maintain.   I've never really done this exercise.  Thanks for the push to look into it.

Anyway, the short answer is that nothing in the Pro version is required in order to run the Mezzmo Kodi addon.  The free version would serve as the central library repository (like MySQL does in the original example) with all the Kodi functions provided by the addon.  There are a handful of features in the Pro version which might be desirable (i.e.  parental controls by content rating, automatic discovery of new content etc..).  Most of the other Pro features are for live stuff, web interface to the Mezzmo library, advanced UPnP features and similar.  FYI, the addon also supports non-Mezzmo UPnP servers.
