1080p stuttering - playback of BR .ISO from Kodi server to Android TV via gb ethernet
#1
I am new to Kodi.

I have a Windows 10 PC ( i7-4790k @ 4.00 GHz, 32 GB RAM, 30 TB RAID 5 ) on which the latest version of Kodi is installed to act as a DLNA media server.  I have hundreds of DVDs and 1080p BluRays stored as .ISO files on the storage array in this machine.

Playing any of these .ISO's through my LAN or WAN using a Windows file share on the server and VLC on the client PC works fine.  Smooth playback, good surround audio, etc. I've even tested this with a few 4k BluRay .ISO and playback is perfect.

I have a SONY OLED TV with the Android version of Kodi on it running as a client.  It is connected to the network via GB Ethernet. Playing 1080p video from the Kodi server is not smooth- there is stuttering.  It's noticeable but not horrible.  Playing DVD from .ISO's  ( 720 x 480 ) is perfectly smooth on the SONY Android TV.

Are there any settings I should tweak to get 1080p .ISOs to play more smoothly on the Android TV?

For meaningful, useful, help please provide a full unredacated debug log.

In this situation it may also be useful to know if there's a specific video codec as VC1 will not act the same as h264, h265.

Likely the network is not to blame however it's not going to be easy to determine without a log.

If you can determine if there is frame dropping it could also help.

Log from the server or from the client side?

I have the same issue on all my Sony android TVs (3) and one nvidia shield android TV. My videos are accessed from Qnap NAS via a home network. Convert the files to non-iso mpeg2 files and they work fine although you lose the dvd menu. Run them on VLC and they work fine. The iso blurays work fine as well. Tried tweaking various Kodi video settings but with no success.

this thread concerns "1080p" "BR" (BluRay) iso and you are reporting the "same issue" but what you report works indicates you are actually talking about a DVD

only on a couple rare occasions have i seen mpeg2 used on a 1080p blu-ray (sleepy hollow 1999 comes to mind)

so if it is not the "same" issue then it would be better to report it as a new issue and provide a Debug Log instead of hijacking an unrelated thread
