Playback of 3D-SBS or 3D-TAB files not working in Kodi "Nexus"v20
#1
Upgraded to Kodi 20 (Nexus)

Since the upgrade... 3D files (SBS and TAB) are not working. When playing (SBS), the right half of the screen is black.. and 3D-TAB missing lower half of the screen is also black.
The Kodi Menus are visible on both sides (SBS) and top and bottom (TAB) but the movie itself only plays one side. Subtitles, if enabled, also work properly displaying on both sides.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Can’t find much about this issue. But I have the same problem. As I’m trying to playback a 3D SBS movie it looks weird. It does play but it’s like de right half which is cut off shows up on the left side or vise versa. Tried to switch left/right eye. And now I’m out of options. Did you make any progress? Using Nexus 20.1 at the moment.

Today I upgraded to KODI V20.3 with no result. Cannot get a single 3D file (SBS or TAB) to work correctly.

It's been almost a WHOLE YEAR with no success. I started to use PLEX on the same NUC PC I have KODI installed. PLEX plays the 3D files with no problem.

It is a shame since I've used KODI since it was XBMC. I purchased my 70" 3D TV before they were all discontinued to play my movies through KODI.

This past year I've been using PLEX to play my 3D library and now NON 3D media and started to like PLEX more and more. Maybe if the next version ok KODI

supports 3D content again, I may return. For now, KODI is on the back burner for me.   Sad

Okay I have the luxury of multiple players, so did the faf of moving a couple arround.

I used a dedicated Kodi Player (OSMC) on the same TV output with no 3D issues!
Same Kodi version of 20.2.

I then went back to the original kodi player (20.2) on windows (10).
And did some tinkering.

I changed the video render method from Auto to Software.
This allowed the 3D film to play correctly.
I say correctly, it was very jumpy and broke normal TV playback, but it did play the 3D film.

I would therefore say a nasty windows update or graphics card update has broken the ability to split and output 2 video streams at once.
So more playing is needed.
There might be more information in the Kodi logs

No Windows dev has 3D hardware as far as I know.
It could be a driver problem (could be mostly ruled out if things work with another player).
Or it was broken in Kodi unknowingly and without the hardware it's pretty difficult to address those.
The only way would be for a user to identify the commit that broke things, by building older versions (there are too many differences between the officially released versions)

I have same issue after upgrading to Kodi 20. I'm unable to properly setup playback of 3D movies in monoscopic mode. Using Kodi 20.3 on LibreELEC 11.0.6 on RaspberryPI4 connected to non-3D HDMI monitor.
Movie is correctly recognized as 3D, also 3D SBS format is autodetected correctly (based on logs).

Example when playing Half SBS movie:
  • If 3D SBS playback is selected:
    • OSD is shown twice on both sides of screen as expected.
    • First quarter (left side) of screen is black.
    • Second quarter contains picture for one eye.
    • Third quarter has picture for second eye.
    • Last quarter on right is black.
    • Expected behavior is that video is played in raw mode - so left half of screen contains one picture and right half second picture.
  • If 2D monoscopic mode is selected:
    • OSD is shown only once through whole screen as expected.
    • Video is played in "raw" mode, so left half of screen has picture for one eye and on right half there is picture for second eye.
    • Expected behavior is that picture for one eye is stretched through whole screen and picture for second eye is discarded.
Another thing is that during playback in OSD menu for 3D mode selection the value of "Change mode" is always 'left_right' no matter what format I choose after clicking on it.

Same applies also for TopBottom formats only in vertical direction.

2D playback before upgrade worked fine, but I was using old Kodi v17 on RaspberryPi3 and there was lot of changes in 3D playback since then...

I had the same problem with 3D movies with kodi 19.5, 20.1, 20.3 and 20.4.
Now i have replaced the 64bit version for a  32bit version of kodi 20.4 and it seems to work just fine.

Sorry.. false positief...
but... 10 out of 50 works fine, only i can't see the difference format and framerates are the same with a few that plays well, also audio is a match with some.
I kan play the files without the 3d tag and bij using a 3d subtitle, so it seems the the switch within kodi to the 3d menu makes the problem.

Same issue here (LibreELEC 12.0.0)
I opened an issue for this: https://github.com/xbmc/xbmc/issues/25391

I need you here: are all the people who suffer from this bug here are using Libreelec ? Or some of us are using another distrib ?

Thanks

Playback of 3D-SBS or 3D-TAB files not working in Kodi "Nexus"v200
