Linux Kodi 20.0 "Nexus" subtitle options
#1
Hello,
I was pretty happy with the subtitle configuration I had set < Kodi 20.0.

Kodi 20.0 "Nexus" brings "Subtitles Rework", "enabling features that were previously not possible".

Not sure how to break it to you nicely, but that is not how I feel at all.
There is only one font - which I dislike - and I can't change the font face colour.
So, it actually feels like a step back to me.

Please consider improving at least these two things asap.
If there is a way to hack things (Arial font, and yellow fill) before the next release, please let me know how.

Thank you!

Subtitles have been completely redone to make this feature easier to maintain and to more easily allow new features to be added that have been request many times over a period of years but we were unable to do with what we had before.

In response to your feedback, firstly the font hasn't changed however we now use Harbuzz as a shaper for better support of shaped characters for lanauages such as Japanese, so this has changed the look of the exisiting font slightly. If you don't like then you can change the font to any TrueType/OpenType font see https://kodi.wiki/view/Subtitles#Adding_fonts. So for Linux you need a font folder in your userdata, the path of which should be ~/.kodi/media/Fonts then simply drop the ttf or oft file in there then you'll be able to select it.

As for colour, you should be able to also see in the above screenshot there is a Colour option to change the colour to anything you like, however it does require the skin in use to have been updated for v20 to add the new colour picker dialog. If you are using a skin other than Estuary and don't see that option in the Settings then your skin hasn't been update, so you'll need the skin author to provide an update, however in the meatime you can temporily switch back to Estuary just to change these settings.

Thank for the tips on adding fonts.
I care little for exotic languages, all I need it the Western and Eastern European character sets.

I don't see the font colour:

I'll check with a different skin.
Thanks!

So, I flipped back to the default skin, changed the font colour, changed back to confluence and it works ;-)
