Screensaver not starting during paused video playback. Video will only dim.
#1
I have been trying to get the screensaver to work on my RP4 and my Rock64 running libreelec. Both devices show the same issue.
I am seeing this on Kodi 20 (libreelec 11) and Kodi 21 (libreelec 12).
I am having this issue on both the latest stable and the nightlies. I have also tried several screensavers with the same results.

When a video is paused the screen dims rather than engaging the screen saver.
I have the 'Use dim if paused during video playback' option unchecked.

If there is no video playing, with the system sitting idle at the GUI, there is no issue. The screensaver engages as expected.

This feels a lot like bug https://github.com/xbmc/xbmc/issues/16123, however that bug was reported as fixed.
Is it possible that the patch for that bug has been somehow dropped?

Can anyone suggest a fix, or how I could troubleshoot this?

if you read the last comment it shows the PR, the PR is https://github.com/xbmc/xbmc/pull/16636/files

then compare that file to the file your system uses from LibreELEC - https://github.com/LibreELEC/xbmc/blob/m....cpp#L3636

you can see that it has not been reverted or dropped

since libreelec does things slightly different did you get any leads from them, perhaps it is the LibreELEC OS screensaver and not the Kodi one?

The only lead they gave me was referring to the bug report that I noted in my first post. However I had already seen that.

i see, well i brought it up because other than showing the screensaver is installed i do not see in your log where it activated

and this post stating libreelec has its own screensaver settings - https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid...pid3167157

I am not sure if this will help but you might want to take a look at my autostop addon.  It doesn't kick in the screensaver as soon as a video is stopped but it will stop a paused video after a certain amount of time and you can have it engage the screensaver.  I use this for my granddaughter who pauses videos and often walks away.  The Wiki is here.

Thanks,

The screensaver not being activated is kind of the problem I am hoping to resolve...

I think they are refering to the CEC tv controls. However those also do not engage as the screensaver triggers them to the best of my understanding.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I don't really want to stop my videos.

Understood.  I could add an option just to kick in the screen saver after a period of paused activity but it is probably better to get this issue resolved more directly.
