How to refresh source content (only files/folders) without library scan?
#1
Hello!

So the kind of the issue is written in the title. When I open a source (let's say from my NAS through SMB shares) and while it's opened in Kodi there are some new files/folder copied inside of this shared source it won't show up just by itself. But it doesn't help either if I quit from the source in Kodi and then reopen it again, the new content still won't show up just by this. I had to start a "Scan for new content" action from the side menu to get Kodi read in the new files/folders, but this function also starts a "Library scan" and begins to update and download unnecessary attachments with the media scrapers and I even had to stop it manually again every time it happens, but this in my case is not what I would expect from a plain "content refresh".

So how to refresh only the (files/folders) content of an actually opened (or just selected) source without starting a complete Library scan with the media scrapers?

And if there isn't a "plain" option implemented yet for this in Kodi, than I would like to request to be have so.

Thank you!

You can only Refresh an item that is already in the library.
For an item to be in the library, you either need to use (1) the scraper or (2) nfo files.
You can't add something to the library without performing either one of those methods.

You don't have to run a full library scan. You can go to the Videos>Files>Your Source>Movie and using the context menu, select scan to library. Or you can do that on the entire source as well.

I don't want to add anything to the Kodi's library, that's the whole pont. I only want to refresh the display of content (files and folders) what's inside the source's folders while I navigate inside them in folder/file list mode. I barely use the scrapers for anything, most of the time I don't need my video files to be scraped into the library. And while I haven't used it so much before, running a full "Scan to library" on my main video source would take a very long time and I don't even need it.

Ok. So you are using Kodi just as a file browser.
If there are folders and files missing from a file browser listing, then my first guess will be a permissions issue on those folders and files. Have you checked that?

I guess there are no permission issues at all, because if I load up Kodi and open the source at the first time, it shows all the files and folders that the source is currently containing. The issue occurs when I add/copy files/folders inside the source folders while it's open in Kodi's video browser and the file/folder list doesn't get refreshed even If I quit the source path and then reenter in it again (it's a "multipath" source and is saved in to my "Favorites" in Kodi). Surely not a permission issue as the "Scan for new content" or "Scan to library" (or whatever names the "scraping" is called in Kodi) function is working fine.

Provide a Debug Log that captures that.
