How to use HDHR3-US tuner in Kodi on a Pi?

It's really hard to hear complaints about a PR from 2015 https://github.com/xbmc/xbmc/pull/7142 about devices that were dropped by the vendor.  However reading that PR maybe all you need to do is install the "HDHomeRun Client" in PVR.  It is documented on the Kodi wiki which you could have done without posting, yelling or complaining.

I had forgotten about because it is so basic but better than what existed before the PR.  Then you don't have to try to research Docker or backends.

Could you translate this into instructions please?

Sure RTDM. D for Docker

On the NextPVR forum we've given you the name, environment, volume, publish  and Dockerhub information which is all you should need to install Docker but you aren't trying to actually understand what they do or how to configure them.  Amazingly sub the author or NextPVR is installing OMV just to help you out, I wouldn't go that far, this is free software.

There are so many ways to configure Docker (Portainer, CLI, Yatch,  NAS GUI etc) it hard to give one guide.   You would have been far better off to install LE for your project as I suggested, generic Linux Kodi clients won't cut it.

You tell me to install an HDHomeRun Client like that's some simple thing or I know what that means with no context.

The whole reason I'm here is because the HDHomeRun I tried to install doesn't work.

Everytime you seem to think you've told me the magic solution, all you've told me is gibber jabber that makes no sense to me.

I appreciate the attempt to help, but I also am confused and frustrated that nothing that has been said here comes even close to instructions on how to do this, and I do not know what in the bloody heck anyone around here expects me to do.

I can't click my heels.

I can't snap my fingers.

Well, I could, but that doesn't have any effect on my situation.

I don't know what I don't know, and I can't just magically know it with no understand or context of what in the heck you are all rambling on about.

So please, for the love of god, someone say something that has some actual context, information, instruction, and that can make my damn setup play some damn TV channels from the equipment I've sunk too much money into, only to have bloody fools decide it's too old and I should throw more money away!

Also, everyone seems to act like I never read any of the instructions.

I do.  I read.  I re-read.  I try things.  I play around.  I try to post what I find out to try and get some knowledge from others that know more.

But documentation isn't the same as instructions or guides, and are often poorly worded for those coming in without some context.

I am a whiz at Windows.  I am a senior support specialist, and am damn good at my job.  My end users love me, I am constantly recognized for my work.

Not trying to boast here, but do want to offer some context here that I am technically inclined, and believe I should be capable of mastering all of these concepts here I'm banging my head against.

It's just that, when it comes to things involving open source projects and linux based things like this, I find quite often the documentation is impossible to follow without a context, and that there's this feeling I get of elitism from the people in the forums - they can't be bothered to help someone that's still trying to come up to speed on a whole new world.

I've been at this linux stuff for years, and I've not been able to make any sense of it.  It's like you want to run your elite club and lock out anyone that isn't already in the know.

That's how it feels from my side of these things.  Not necessarily saying that I think this is intentional.

I've been catching up on the other thread - I do see as you posted sub is working on OMV, and yes, that is above and beyond, and very much appreciated, and I will be sure to let him know how appreciated that is and do all I can to help us see this through to the end and document it.

Kodi, Docker and NextPVR cost you nothing. You tuner is well over 10 years old and obsolete, you are planning on using an old RPi3 client which will need the mpeg2 license (if you don't have one) but still it is pretty hard to complain about the price now don't you think?  I am saying I think you should invest your time and your brain power to understand what is going on rather than just expecting to copy and pasting from a guide or follow a You Tube video.

In any case maybe the generic addon doesn't support legacy mode sorry about that, it does use libhdhomerun and someone who cares enough could update the client but I guess no one is interested in doing that, which makes sense to me.

What's 10 years?  My 100 year old victrola still works great, and I can still buy needles for it.  That tuner is hardly old.

I am trying to understand what's going on.  It's hard to do that when none of my questions are being answered, and no one is sharing useful information that I can understand.

You are talking in a way that requires someone to already have a level of understanding I don't.

You can keep doing that - but it will continue to produce no results.

Also, a good guide or youtube video will give me something to follow that has results, but it will also explain why and leave me understanding what I did and why I did it at the end, so I can actually repeat it, and build on that.

Telling me to RTDM does nothing.  I've read it.  It makes no sense to me.

Ok, I now have NextPVR setup on my server.  But it seems over on that forum they don't know how to do things with Kodi.

What do I need to do to use this to view channels on Kodi on my Pi?

Nevermind - that was simple - went into tv, which sent me to add-ons, which has a next-pvr one, installed it, now all my channels are listed.

Now I have a little kitchen TV with my Pi and LCD.  Another step closer to making an antique TV rotary dial functional again.

For those finding this thread, relevant screenshots to setup NextPVR in OMV can be found here - https://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.ph...721&page=6
