I've got this. Read the trilogy last month. Seeing as the sequels were never going to be made, wanted to know how the story ended. Nice ending to the story.
Tested it and worked fine. See video below.

And here is the log, playback starts at line 1000... https://paste.kodi.tv/oyisaribop.kodi
Fwiw, there are some pretty major differences between what works for you and what doesn't work for others. If I'm not mistaken, here's a few I noticed taking a quick look and I'm not even sure if the OP is referring to SDR and/or HDR:
You - Windows 10.
Me - Windows 11.
You - No HDR capable monitor.
Me - Yes, HDR capable monitor.
Your desktop - 1080p 50Hz.
Mine - 2160p 60Hz.
You - Kodi 21.1
Me - Kodi 22 nightlies having moved on from 21 since it didn't work either.
Your source - 1080p SDR.
My source - 2160p HDR.
I have no problem with menus for any 1080p SDR just like you don't. I appreciated watching your video proof but it's comparing apples to oranges in this case. Thanks for that nonetheless.
The problems have always been 4k HDR UHD Blu-rays which are the examples I posted at your request.
Many, if not most 4k HDR discs do not display menus however, some do and I do not know what makes them ok and others not.
Most simply bypass menus and begin playing the main movie instead.
Still others refuse to render anything after the display enters HDR mode which quickly returns to SDR mode and I'm met with a Kodi pop-up that says "Cannot play disc".
These discs that Kodi cannot play... do play in other players - not one fails. They don't display menus but mount, play the main movie, and dismount when finished.
As far as I can decipher, there is nothing in Kodi logs revealing why some discs play and others don't. I've posted many but they were never looked at.
Lastly, I am the one the OP is referring to. Way back then, I kept very good spread sheets to provide ammo to the Kodi community hoping 4k HDR menus might be tackled. I tried many combos of things providing what worked and what didn't - right down to the exact builds that began breaking menu support. Realizing this issue wasn't of enough importance to others and wasn't going to be addressed, it became unimportant to me also. Perhaps sometime in the future this problem will be important enough for a developer to address. Until then, I install every new nightly and pay attention to every new thread regarding no menu support using 4k HDR.
