Looking for some information on how these preform using xbmc

I was also looking at one of these but the price and specs seems that the price is high compared to above.

the ion platform has vdpau hardware accelerated h264 decoding (linux only). It should play h264 media. It also has a faster CPU than the other.

ati has no hardware decoding and the atom cannot decode 1080p

The first one should be able to handle the playback of HD the second one is not. As for the browsing with a graphics intensive skin like Aeon and others you might have some issues due to the processor having problems rendering the 1080p screens and icons etc. Because you should not forget that only the playback of movies is using the GPU (and that only on linux) but the backgrounds and start screen are all handled by the CPU.

I think the 330 should be able to handle even a 1080p skin but I cannot confirm this my self.

From reading through the other posts it seems that an ION 330 will do the trick.

My poor brain is hurting tring to figure out the most cost effective way to make a large storage device and make a htpc plus still have 2 usable pcs.

The HTPC looks like it will be an ion based 330 though running xbmc
