remote freeze in xbmc
#1
Hi everyone.

I'm having some troubles with recent builds of xbmc for xbox. Put simply, the remote seems to freeze up and xbmc does not respond to presses. Everything else continues to work, including the ftp/web services and music/video playback (via the web gui).

It's not entirely predictable, but it seems to happen most often within 10 seconds of leaving the main menu after boot up.

A different remote/receiver in a different slot didn't help, so I know that's not the issue. Joystick controller worked normally. I've added one of the logs to pastebin:

Can someone please look at my log and perhaps help me out?

Thanks,
Jon

Hello,

I have the same problem with my XBMC Live 9.11.
I don´t know when it happens - but suddenly (I think only when I am "clicking" in the menu) the remote stops to work.
Everything else continues to work. Keyboard, Mouse, FTP, Web-Services,..... All!!!

Thanks Oliver.

*bump*

This seems to be getting worse, and updating to newer nightlies doesn't seem to help. 720p with default PM3HD skin, streaming standard xvid from the LAN. It's a bit sporadic at the moment, with it suddenly stopping responding to 3/6/9 (volume) or stop or ... for a while ... and then the remote starts working again.

It only seemed to arrive with recent builds (I should have kept better notes!), but I'm hesitant to downgrade and miss out on all of arnova's improvements.

I don't remember this being a problem in the past. Is anyone using the xbox version having this problem? How hard is it to be traced back to a specific revision? Maybe before Camelot 9.11, if it's platform independent. When did the xbox branch split again?? The problem I'm having is that it doesn't consistently play up so I can test it properly..

It's taking the shine off an otherwise flawless performance....

Narrowing down to which revision caused the issue would certainly help. You don't need to mess with your "main" install in order to do so: You can install various different versions of XBMC to various different places on your HDD, and they won't interfere with each other.
XBMC Manual - BlackBolt - SVN Guide - Skin SVN - Wide Icon SVN - ROM Shortcut Generator
You're just jealous 'cause the voices only talk to me :P

I'm embarrassed. Consider this one (more-or-less) solved. Blush
[I'm posting this for completeness in case it helps anyone else]

Turns out the lcd tv is bleeding infrared noise, particularly through the backlight. This is drowning out my legitimate remote presses, for both my xbox and my receiver. For example, the xbox wasn't stopping the music when i asked. I turned off the tv and it instantly started responding to my requests.

The thing that threw me was that it all worked in the other room on the other xbox. I thought it was the earlier build that was making the difference, but it was that it's an old rear projection tv.

I'd change the thread title if i knew how. I'm still not sure how to proceed, but at least I can now better direct (or search) my questions.

Cheers.
