So the later versions of MAME don't seem to respond to XPadder. I've read this has to do with MAME looking for raw input from the joystick. I wouldn't mind, but I've been using a config where L3 is set to ALT and R3 is set to F4, so I can click both sticks simultaneously to exit an emulator and return to XBMC.

I can't do this with MAME.

Does anyone know how to kill MAME from joystick input? I don't want to grab a keyboard every time I want to exit a game.

Someone on another forum answered the question for me. Go into Input (General), User Interface (I think?), then assign a joystick button to the UI Cancel function. This will allow you to exit the emulator from a joystick.
