i think i see this behaviour as well (on win2k).
i play an mp3, browse around, play other mp3s, browse some more, etc...
i now have stopped anything from playing, and xbmc is just sitting on the main screen.
win2k shows 5 established connection from the xbox to pc.
also, while taking a look at the open files, two of the mp3s that i did play are listed there which means xbmc still seems to have a lock on the files. looks like the smb connections needs to be closed properly.

hmm open files are not good :-)
the only bug i was aware of is when using smb://pc a lot of sessions where left open. if you where using this, use smb://pc/share for now.

fwiw, last night i watched a movie, the movie finished, and i just checked the sessions and open files.
1 open session, and 1 open file. the open file is the movie from last night, and the open session is the same.
the open sessions is of course the one from last night.

i just remember that yesterday, when i first tried to watch the movie, it exited about 2 minutes in. that is probably where the stale session is from as well as the open file.
