Problem with .srt subtitles
#1
hi all,
it seems to me that there's a problem with the most recent versione on xbmc and .srt subtitles.
when a subtitle has to be displayed, the movie freezes and i've to reboot my xbox.
here's an example:

1
00:00:19,967 --> 00:00:23,084
"...nel volgere di un giorno e di una sventurata notte...

save the text in a file named <movie title>.srt and try to play the movie.
it should stop after 0 hours, 0 minutes and 19.967 seconds.

i also have a simalar problem although my xbox wont freeze.
when the first subtitle comes in the screen the movie freezes for a few seconds and continues to play.
av sync is out of sync for a few seconds, few secs later it is in sync again.
but every time a new subtitle comes on the screen the movies freezes for a little moment. it looks like there are a few frame drops.
i run the latest xbmc from 2003-12-11.
when i try to run this movie with xbmp using the same srt there is no problem, it runs just fine.
anyone any idea?

i watched numerous movies with subtitles and never saw this problem
maybe you can try 2 find out why this happens
pls try this:

- playing movie without subtitles
- try l8test cvs version of xbmc
- disable deinterlace filter
- enable/disable postprocessing
- try playing movie from local hd

i also have a problem with .srt subtitles, but it's a bit different.

the 12-08 cvs build is the last build that will display subtitles for me. any build since then (upto and including 01-07) simply does not display the subtitles.

one slight variation is that one day subtitles could be displayed, but they were always the same subtitles, regardless of the movie being played! Huh

start the movie, go back to settings --> video calibration and calibrate the screen. there you can set the position of the subs, maybe they are just offscreen.
read the xbmc online-manual, faq and search the forums before posting! do not e-mail the xbmc-team asking for support!
read/follow the forum rules! note! team-xbmc never have and never will host or distribute ms-xdk binaries/executables!

hmmm, i have already checked the calibration of subtitles - but have i done it while a movie with subtitles is running? something to check out tonight... Image

nope, it's not the calibration...

ok, i loaded up the 01-15-04 build last night and tried it again:

- playing movie without subtitles

not exactly sure what this means. i can play a movie without an associated .srt file and i don't see subtitles (well, i have seen this once, but cannot repro). i can also turn subtitles off for a movie that has a file, and i also don't see subtitles.

- try l8test cvs version of xbmc

latest i can get is 01-15-04.

- disable deinterlace filter

no difference.

- enable/disable postprocessing

no difference.

- try playing movie from local hd

this i have yet to do, but i will try it.

the other thing i just though about is the alternate subtitles directory item in the .xml... i will try putting the subtitles in there, and also will try removing the entry. (two different tests)

Thumbs Up
fixed!

it looks like the <subtitle></subtitle> entry in the xml must be present for the subtitles to work at all.

i have been keeping my old .xml file as i upgrade and just adding new things as i think i need them - i didn't think i needed this one since i store my subtitles with the movie files.

i added the entry, created the directory ($home/subtitles) and dropped a subtitle in. when i played that movie i saw the subtitle, so i started removing changes one at a time. first i deleted the file from the subtitles directory, and it still worked. then i deleted the directory, and it still worked. i could do the final step and remove the xml entry but that's the last thing i changed, so i don't feel like proving it out since it is now working.
