Android XBMC crash on streaming ISO over network
#1
This is on Samsung galaxy s2 USA att version, sgh 1777 i think.

Files are SD iso rips of my collection made using anydvd, stored on an unraid server, shared to xbmc via windows network share.

For the vast majority of ISO files xbmc crashes upon attempting playback after "working" for several seconds.

I have had this behavior essentially unchanged on early xda builds, and now with frodo beta 1, 2, and rc1. I have used stock android 2.3.6 and now the aokp 4.1.2 jellybean.

There is at least one movie that seems to stream OK... "analyze that". mp4 streams OK with all combinations tried from the same server using windows shares.

I have not tried storing an ISO locally on the phone yet (don't have large enough SD card yet to test it).

I think, but have not yet confirmed it, that several ISO files would get to the menu then crash on trying to play the feature. Now that I've checked the attempt to bypass menu settings option it seems there are very few files that do anything other than crash.

The constants are my hardware (don't have any other capable android hardware ATM... tablet is tegra2), ISO format, network hardware, and using windows shares.

Thoughts? I've seen mention that there might not be support for ISO playback yet. Is that true? Seems to not be a universal truth at least. Is my hardware just insufficient for this? Does seem to play the odd DVD fine at least.

If it is the windows share method, I'm happy to try another share method but have little experience still with unraid and Linux in general. Suggestions?

I'm happy to wait patiently as i know things are still very early for android. If this sounds like unexpected behavior for my hardware and configuration, I'm happy to try and provide any other info or debug files if that might be of use.

tegra2 does not have neon, how can you be running Frodo beta 1, 2, and rc1 releases ? beta3 added a java check for neon.

I guess i worded that poorly. This is on my Samsung galaxy s2. The only other android hardware i have at the moment is a tegra2 based tablet, thus i can't easily investigate for myself if the sgs2 hardware is to blame.

Is ISO playback working on other android hardware? Anyone have it working on the galaxy s2? Streaming?

mini update... I asked for a pivos xios for Christmas from the wife so I'd have a new toy to fool with. Went with this box as it seemed appropriate to support xbmc and those who also support xbmc.

Flashed to the latest Linux xbmc image. Went OK, xbmc seems to function well enough, but still having significant issues playing my ISO DVD collection via smb share from an unraid box. I have and still can play all these ISO rips fine on my windows xbmc machine, so i don't think it is an inherent problem with the unraid server or my network.

I still find quite spotty info on ISO playback on android. Since the Linux xbmc build on this box also has problems, though a bit different and not always as severe as my phone, i wonder if this is a difficulty with the arm port in general? A few scattered comments make it sound like ISO plays fine for some people. Others say completely unusable.

Is this question now better served on the pivos forums, or since i have the issues on two different hardwares here at xbmc?

general churn in builds.

Forgive me if that's obvious just not to me... does that mean its just a fact of life for early builds and will get sorted out in time? If so that's cool. My second best interpretation is that you were pointing me to where i should post? Smile

Do you offer an opinion on whether the current Linux build or the latest release candidate is the best choice for the pivos?

Btw, been trying more of my library... it is much improved over what i saw on my galaxy s2. I haven't kept exact records but my impression is that perhaps 80-90% of my ISO library plays reasonably well. On my Samsung its perhaps a few percent. Overall a very promising platform. I look forward to tinkering with it for many months to come.

"fact of life for early builds and will get sorted out in time". yes. There are user builds of the pending m1/m3 linux update. You might check those out. See Pivos forum.
