so just for me to clarify what the intention here is, it is to directly support accessing streams over DLNA or some other means, from only Silicon Dust network tuners, while still grabbing the EPG data and scheduling recordings from WMC? There will be tuner contention wont there (DLNA/direct access tuners, vs those being grabbed by WMC)? Plus it has the limitations of only working with particular devices etc.

I assume it would work with any tuner that supports DLNA, I hope that's not just Si dust devices.
Yes, the rec servirvice would still be doing recordings, if we did this it would just be for live streams. For it to work, we would need to be able to handle contention between live-tv and rec-tv the same way we do now (which is basically that rec tv always wins).
I am not crazy about having special cases for hardware either. It might be an easy thing to do though, I just don't know enough to say.

the current implementation is processing WTV container files and remuxing the video contents into a TS file container. If you went this way you would need to take the DLNA stream and then demux it and provide that to XBMC? Or can you just give XBMC a DLNA URL/connection i wonder...

@LSU Jonno, thanks for patiently educating scarecrow and me. Is it only hdhomeruns that would be able to use this?

If you are still okay with lending me one, I could check it out. No promises though (except to ship it back). I probably would need it for a couple of months, even if things go smoothly. Unless scarecrow wants to try it (but then you'd need to ship it to Australia). If you are still willing let me know and I'll PM you my info.

Proline says the tuner is in the mail (almost). I will update this thread if/when I have something worth updating. Thanks proline!
