well i think there are multiple possibilities.
with "web gui" do you mean chorus2? in chous2, as well in yarc, you can also download the items, depending on the browser, it also might stream it. important is, that the files have the right filetype (i made my dvd's to iso's and they don't work, but i also don't want to rip them all...).
i think there are also posibilities of airplay and upnp/dnla (<- don't know what this actually is). Also, the android app (one of them at least) has some streaming feature. but i have no idea about this stuff. but might be worth a closer look for you.
hope this is of any help for you.
Check out my plugin
yarc, it's a web-remote optimised for all screen sizes (especially touch and small screen).

yes i am sure, but i don't know what you try, have and expect. i was not inventing what i wrote above. so please give more context information.
do you use chorus, or chorus2?
are the settings set properly?
what fileformat do the media have?
are airplay or dnla(upnp) an option, did you read into it?

from "About" in the web interface I see:
Chorus 0.3.10
is it the first version?
I installed Chorus form the kodi web interface so I didn't see any other versions there.
I 've enabled upnp but not airplay.
the problem is that I can't watch or listen any format file in "local" but in XBMC mode instead work all of them fine.

Why not install kodi on the machine you want to watch on?
