I been having the same issues. So after some reading I tried an older version and it worked perfect. I then checked my windows updates and realized my old comp hasnt updated since 2013. I rarely use a comp any more and usually use my tablet. Long story short if its not working for some people it's prob their comp and old updates. My comp is old but works good for what I use it for. I met the same issue: in seeing movies with no video but only sund in KODI and I found a right solution for it after 2 days of trying everythng
I offer a best and simple solution to reappear picture with sound in KODI working on laptop
The principal reason for KODI to black out your screen buth only sound, is: the incompatibitity of KODI with your garphic card. AMD card
You should go to device manager and choose disable your driver of Graphic catrd such as AMD card
After that you can see movies normally with video and sound in KODI
Don't worry about your win 10 that will be normally although disabling driver of AMD graphic card
You could need to enable AMD driver after using KODI
