Solved Thumb issues with non English characters in video names and artwork loading
#1
EDIT - Solved-ish
So turns out that the file name issue wasn't really an issue with the files name when it comes to extracting thumbs, but an issue with the name when it comes to importing/exporting the library.
I recently moved and had to replace the file locations stored in the database and it seems like Kodi couldn't handle exporting the following characters æ ø å Æ Ø Å so when importing the altered list it imported the wrong filenames.

I still have an issue with some artwork loading slowly (or at least I think it's a bit slow) but I will start a new thread specifically for that.

Original Post Blow

Hello,

I have had some issues with thumbs not loading (or loading slowly) for a while now, so I started to play around with some settings as well as looking into the log and I noticed these two lines (which I'm thinking might be the root of my problem):
Code:
2019-12-06 14:45:58.160 T:2209330032 DEBUG: DoWork - trying to extract thumb from video file smb://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/Share/Movies/S??.L
2019-12-06 14:45:58.160 T:2209330032 ERROR: InputStream: Error opening, smb://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/Share/Movies/S??.L

This specific movie is called Så Længe Jeg Lever (It's a Danish movie) the file is named like this Så.Længe.Jeg.Lever.(2018).mkv

Now I could just go ahead and give it the English title The Way to Mandalay but personally I like to keep my Danish media with the original title.

So now to my questions:

1. Am I correct in assuming that Kodi not being able to open the file for thumb extraction will cause issues/delay in loading artwork for other titles?
1.1 If not, then would anyone have any ideas as to what could be the issue?

2. Can Kodi handle these characters at all? (Is there some setting I haven't figured out maybe?)

I'm just gonna throw a little in here about the artwork loading issue:
Basically it seems to take about 1-2 seconds to load artwork most of the time. Like when I enter a movie collection it takes a bit to load the artwork for the movies, then when I return to the movie list I have the same issue even though the artwork was already loaded for them before I entered the movie collection.
As far as I have been able to gather, Kodi should cache artwork locally so even though the video and artwork files are on a network drive, the artwork should be loaded from Kodi cache right?

Extra info that could be relevant:
  • All my media is on a NAS (A Raspberry Pi 3B+ running OpenMediaVault)
  • I'm using the theme Estuary (I have also tried using Estuary Mod v2 for a while)
  • I have used Artwork Beef to download artwork (No animated artwork yet)
    • I have enabled Artwork Beef to download the artwork, I had previously just had it add URLs to Kodi
  • Kodi log: http://ix.io/23GC
  • Running Kodi 18.5 (LibreELEC 9.2.0) on a Raspberry Pi 4
