is it possible run XBMC on Windows Home server itself?

I'm thinking of setting up a WHS box (previously just had a headless XP install w/ a bunch of SMB shared hard drives and folders.). WHS is meant to be headless so I'm not sure. WHS' foundation is server 2003/XP so the driver support should be good...

I'm presently using a copy of Vista that I slimmed down to the basics with vLite.
...but I wanted to use Vista anyway.

Is there any particular reason you like Vista better than XP?

How much difference did you get from slim-down with vLite? Thx

Most computers and XBOXs are used for some Internet access... several built-in functions of XBMC require web access to function (weather, scrapers, many scripts, etc)

Using the latest XP serive pack is generally a good idea for several reasons: close security holes, driver fixes (which equal stability in many cases), and in the case os SP3 it gives measured performance gains.

If you want to have a slim/trim XP or Vista I suggest, as many here have, using TinyXP or nLite.

I wouldn't suggest trying to run XBMC on Home Server, since its unique services can hog the cpu pretty good, and it is setup as a server, so you would need to do some fiddling, wich may, or may not have adverse effects on the server portion itself.

HOwever, I can highly reccommend using a Home Server to story your videos/music/pictures on and accessing it via a xmbc 'client' machine elsewhere in the house.

I wonder how well those new eepc boxes would run XBMC, since they seem a perfect size to hide near/behind a tv. Then add a remote control, and voila.. hmmmm.....

Honestly, the only reason I'm using Vista instead of XP is that I use it on my desktop & laptop as well, and I enjoy having the same UI between all three of them. On top of that, my media center has more than plenty enough ram for the task.

I would say I've shaved maybe a couple of seconds off boot times (on the few occasions I've had to actually boot/reboot the media center). It maybe shaved a second off of resuming from Sleep. The biggest difference is in RAM usage. I'm using maybe 500mb out of the total 2gb on average.
