Does the content name of the source override folder naming? Quick metadata question-
#1
So, I keep changing the name of the content to a source of a show I've added, this does seem to provide different results from the metadata searching.  Does that content name just override the folder naming?  Or do I have to absolutely ensure my folder names are still correct, even if I later rename the content to the accurate title that will find the correct meta data.

https://kodi.wiki/view/Naming_video_files/TV_shows doesn't make it super clear whether the name of the source overrides the folder name, it seems to equate the two, but obviously they can be named separately, even though Kodi automatically names the content of the source you are adding to the folder name by default.

The content type you set on a source determines how Kodi interprets the subfolders in the source.  If you set content type as "tv show" then the names of the child subfolders are taken to be the tv show titles and that is used for scraping metadata, unless nfo files are present in the child folders.

Source folder is explained in the previous page to the one you linked... https://kodi.wiki/view/Naming_video_files#Source_Folder

The source folder has no control over the scraper. It is just the location that the scraper check for your tv shows.

You normally have many, many tv shows in your Source folder. It is not meant to be a source folder for each tv show.

I don't really understand what you are doing here, but it sounds wrong. Once you create your Source folder, leave it alone. Just add your tv shows into the source folder and make sure they are all named correctly.

f:\TVShow1\American Gods\Season 1\American Gods S01E01.mkv
TVShow1 = Kodi Source
American Gods = TV Show folder
Season 1 = Season folder
American Gods S01E01.mkv = Episode video file

Thank you, it's starting to clear up for me.  I seem to have many of my shows that match some pattern but not the correct one for my metadata.  Example the file name might be "American Gods Episode 1 The Bone Orchard.mkv" - Beyond manually renaming anything do you know of a powershell script or an plugin that would work to fix this? I messed around for an hour or so but there weren't any examples that worked for me

If you are on windows you might have a look at a tool here Media Companion that provides TV show episode filename renaming.  I haven't used it so can't vouch for how easy or hard it is to get it right.
