Does Library import from single file overwrite existing library?
#1
Hi all, I did a quick search and didn't come up with what I'm looking for. I've exported the video library to a single file and made title and movie set changes. Now I'm ready to import it back into Kodi. I'm wondering am I going to end up with 2 of everything? Or will it overwrite the existing? If overwriting, which field(s) serve as the matching criteria? If not overwriting, how do I empty the existing library first? The wiki import-export library pages doesn't say how the import would impact existing library. Thanks in advance.

Chromecast with Google TV, which is running Android. I asked the same question in the Android forum a week ago, but no one responded. So I thought maybe this is not platform specific.

I thought the question sounded familiar. I'll remove your other duplicate post.

To be honest it is not something I have tested in that detail. Single file Export is not the preferred method for backing up the video library. It is an inflexible method and causes problems with scraped artwork and if you move your files around after the export then those entries become dead.

But a quick test of two movies shows that it overwrites the existing entry. So if you have simply exported, made a change in the xml file, then reimporting, it should work, but it seems to overwrite everything in the library which is a lot of unnecessary work and would be slow if you have a large library.

I would recommend exporting to separate files, editing the individual nfo files and then Refresh those particular movies back into the library.
