Linux Unable to play DVDs in Kodi 19.0
#1
Kodi is recognising that there is a DVD inserted (the Disc tab appears on the home page), but nothing happens upon pressing "Play disc". The eject button works correctly.
I have tried several different commercial DVDs including some that I had previously played with no issue in older versions of Kodi last year (18.x).
I have tried both an external USB optical drive, and an internal SATA one.
I am able to play the movies in VLC on the same machine.
I have tried on a fresh install of Kodi with no change in behavior.

System info:
Arch Linux (rolling)
Intel i5-6600 (amd64)
Nvidia GTX 1070
Kodi version 19.0.0 installed from the official Arch repository
libdvdcss 1.4.2; libdvdnav 6.1.0; libdvdread 6.1.1 installed from Arch repository

Debug log
Note the last few lines of left mouse button events are from me clicking the "Play disc" button - appears there is no response to the events.
DVD auto-play is enabled in settings but does not work either.

Yes,i have noticed dvd playback has not gotten much love for Kodi19 and is pretty much unusable.
I don't use physical media anymore, but it's a regression from earlier versions all the same (clean setup here).

Sorry - here's a Debug Log with addons removed.

it's a known bug in v19, should be fixed with https://github.com/xbmc/xbmc/pull/19352

Fantastic, thanks for that! I guess I'll just hold off until 19.1 comes out.

I'm not sure if this issue also addresses "No optical disc drive detected" for Media Stubs but I think it might be.
I don't want to play a DVD by Kodi. I just use Media Stub files (.disc) and I get the message, even if I have installed an optical disc drive.
The "Eject" button is active and working but the stub message is wrong. It should show the title of the movie but not the message "No optical disc drive detected".

Any developments on this? I'm on 19.4 and have the same issue. Kodi recognizes inserted DVD, can eject DVD, but Play button does nothing.

Disc needs to be mounted to be playable in Kodi atm. You can install udisks2 and Kodi will automount the optical disc by default.
Not great but it's what we support.
