I have kodi leia 18.5
I am using it with a QNAP drive. When first installed i had to install a custom patch. Qnap 4.5.2.1566  i am trying to install the subtitle add on but its instructions are sending me to the "settings" in Kodi.. there are no settings i can find in Kodi. Can I remove it  and  install 18.9 without the patch (i cannot remember where it was I think it was on this support forum but that was a while ago..)
and is that what i need to add the subtitles from subscene or open subtitles

You are using a release for a QNAP NAS that has been released by the QNAP community, not by Team Kodi. This also applies to 'patches' for your Kodi setup.
Subsquently, it's best to contact those how provide the Kodi releases, and ask for further assistance.

Add-ons for Kodi will need to be compiled for your QNAP NAS and supplied as well by the QNAP community.
