Movie art in original language but keep plot text in English. Possible?
#1
Using latest Kodi. I have some foreign movies that I watch in original language with subtitles. When Kodi scans the movie it will show English title, plot and also poster art in English.

I would prefer to have the artwork in the original language. I can set it up by changing the source so that the preferred language is that of the original language of the movie.
After rescanning it shows me the artwork in original language, which is great. However, now it also changed the plot text and title to the original language.

When I set the source back to English and refresh, now the text is back to English, but so is the artwork.

Is there a way to have Kodi expand the selection of artwork to choose from to multiple languages, seperate from what language you have set for the source?

Which scraper are you using?

If you use The Movie Database Python scraper, you have some language choices.
But if you go to the fanart.tv tab in the scraper settings, you can select a language for artwork. But this only works for artwork at fanart.tv. So if the language you select is not available there, I think it falls back to English anyway.

Probably the best solution is to use local artwork. Download the poster you want and save it next to your movie. Name it the same as the movie file name then add -poster to the end without spaces

I have TMDB and Universal Movie Scraper. Also tried Fanart.tv but it doesn't have much available in non-english, at least in my experience.
I guess your suggestion of local artwork is the best solution. But that will cost additional time and it kind of defeats the idea of automated movie scraping. Wink But thanks for the suggestion.

What is a shame is that the artwork is available on TMDB. If only I could get to it without having to change the language.

Any joy with this? I just went to tMDb to Upload all the Studio Ghilbli posters and found that they were all already there - just under a different Language. It's a shame not to be able to show "foreign" posters, especially old Japanese, Italian, and Hong Kong original poster artwork...
