Kodi chooses wrong audio stream
#1
I play .mkv's that have stereo, DTS, ac3, and Atmos streams. Kodi always chooses the stereo. How can I tell Kodi to always choose the surround stream? There are no settings that I can find. I have to manually select audio streams.
This is a pain when I have a hundred .mkv's of music ripped from Blu Ray!

Someone wrote a patch for this
https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=44450
But I can't find it and why not have this be a feature? Seems obvious--

It depends on how the audio streams have been tagged in the mkv file. The stereo track may have been set as default, or maybe all the audio tracks have been incorrectly set as default and Kodi is just picking the first one.
Install MKVToolNix and check the tagging... https://mkvtoolnix.download/downloads.html

You have the ability to preferred language and tell Kodi to prefer an audio stream in that language as per the settings here: https://kodi.wiki/view/Settings/Player/L...io_streams

I don't think this help you select the audio track type unless you set the language and the other tracks are a different language so if no preference is selected I believe Kodi will default to the first track.

What you can do is either:

a) don't include unnecessary audio tracks when you rip the media to MKV

or

b) remux the existing MKV file to either remove unwanted audio tracks or re-order them then remux the MKV so the primary audio track is the one you prefer.
Always read the Wiki, FAQ and search the forum before posting.

Hmmm, from the way I read the Wiki, if "prefer default audio streams" is off, then Kodi will prefer higher quality streams.
Quote:If enabled, audio streams that are flagged as default (and match the preferred language) are preferred over audio streams with higher quality (number of channels, codec, ...)

Totally not tested this to see if it still works though!

Karellen you are correct. MKVtoolnix showed stereo as default; I deleted stereo and AC3 and retained DTS, DTS-HD and Atmos and set ATmos as default.
Would be a nice feature to set a default quality mode though! and override default.

Ok.
If you don't want to remux your file, you can use the Header Editor and simply modify the tags... https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid...pid3078399
