Unable to download subtitles
#1
I'm running OSMC on a Vero 4k+. Two days ago I updated to OSMC 2023.06-01, bringing with it Kodi v20.1. Ever since then, I get an error whenever I try to download subtitles through any subtitle service.

Here's the log: https://paste.kodi.tv/ebihiqepof.kodi

The relevant exception can be found near the bottom:
Code:
2023-06-08 14:47:48.549 T:2935 error <general>: OnDownloadComplete - Saving of subtitle /home/osmc/.kodi/userdata/addon_data/service.subtitles.opensubtitles-com/temp/7a81a7ae-af6a-4029-ab93-59868bbe8c38.srt to special://temp/Vampire.Hunter.D.Bloodlust.2000.JAPANESE.1080p.BluRay.H264.AAC-VXT.en.srt failed

I can access the temp folder (mapped to /home/osmc/.kodi/temp) over SSH just fine and am also able to write files to that location, I'm not sure if that rules out a permissions issue.

Unfortunately I didn't make a backup before going ahead with the update, so I'm stuck unable to download subtitles. I've already tried resetting kodi to defaults but the problem persists.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

OSMC does have its own support forum, have you already contacted them on this matter?

Typically, whenever Kodi stores a downloaded subtitle into the temp folder, would be because the default location (next to the video) has no write rights, and be read-only.

I posted there first, unfortunately haven't gotten any responses yet which is why I figured I'd try my luck here.

I did think it odd it was trying to write to a temp folder, hadn't considered it might be failing to write to the movie folder. I'll look into that, maybe the permissions got messed up somehow.

according to the addon's page https://kodi.tv/addons/matrix/service.su...titles-com the addon also has its own forum for support so that could be another avenue - https://forum.opensubtitles.com/t/new-op...addon/1673

So seems it's just this particular add-on that's broken. I could have sworn I'd tested others and had the same issue, but trying now they work fine, including the (soon to be deprecated) opensubtitles.org add-on.

Knowing that it's the add-on that's broken now, I'll head on over there and go bother them. Thanks for the input.
