hi,
is it just me, or does the sound of movies appear much softer then in mp3's? i really have to open the volume control of my amp to get some decent volume in movies (any movie that is, not just one in particular).

this is generically true, due to the dynamic range of movie soundtracks compared to music. especially a lot of recently recorded music which has most dynamics compressed a fair amount (in order to sound brighter for radio).
are you using ac3 passthru? if so, your ac3 tracks will be a bit louder (and far, far clearer). if you are playing ripped movies with mp3 audio, then unless the dynamic range was reduced when it was ripped, there's not much that can be done, save from a boost (which will likely cause clipping on some very loud sounds).
amplification of audio is already on the todo list.

i think xbmc should implement some kind of dynamic range compression in addition to apmlification.
