Hi,

I got a Pana 46PZ80, and I don't need a modeline. Been playing around with them before, but it turned out you simply don't need it. This is the xorg.conf I am using without any problems:

# nvidia-xconfig: X configuration file generated by nvidia-xconfig

Let me know if you run into any problems with this. For me 24p and automatic refresh rate adjustment works perfectly fine with this setup. 24hz content is sent as 24hz to my TV, 50hz Pal is sent as 50hz, the way it should be.

Edit: I would suggest you use the latest nvidia driver from the nvidia ftp, that's what i'm doing:

ftp://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-...3-pkg1.run

K i have installed newst nvidia drivers from ftp, and i have copyed your xorg.conf to my /etc but i still cant use 720p or 1080i neither with pal nad ntsc, isee the screen but its not fited, for example 1080p is to much bigger and i cant see whole . i dunno what to do now...i dont have more ideas. The only right resolution is 1024x768, and smaller... which i canr see whole screen

How is your Ubuntu desktop showing? It should actually auto set itself to 1920x1080 using EDID signaling. Does your desktop fit your plasma screen exactly? Or do you have problems with desktop display as well?

log wrote that the card cant read edid info from tv, maybe thats why dont work ;/ but in "X -verbose 6 > ~/xlog.txt 2>&1" i cant see avalible 1080i modes ... it looks terribly suck.

What card do you have exactly, how do you have it connected to your tv? I have it hooked up via hdmi, don't think you'll get EDID info on other connection methods.
Anyway, I can't imagine the new Pana G10 Plasmas don't support EDID, since my last generation PZ80 does it just fine.

That's a whole different story then, sorry I don't have any experience with vga connections to TVs. But I am pretty sure you do not get EDID over vga.

thats why i need modline in xorg i thought... and i'm stuck. for hdmi is quite easier couze its digital connection, much faster etc. And prob. with better performance. In vga is a little bit harder. And, well still dunno the clue...

Well what about taking the easy way and getting a cheap 8 or 9000 Series Nvidia Card with HDMI out? I wouldn't wanna hook up a G10 Panel Panasonic via VGA. Trust me you are gonna see the difference.
You get those cards for about 40-50 $.

EDIT: plus you would have VDPAU hardware accelleration with that card.

Yeah but for what spending money for sth, when you get this all stuf's at home. Old part's of pc's... it is possible couze i have compal fl90 with 8600gt in notebook , and it isnt worst class od gpu , and even no it i can't get 1080i on vga, couze i dont have hdmi on it too .

And what about ion 300 ? there is 9400 as i remember and it's 1080i and with hdmi even, but ppl have problems with it, i mean with configs...

Just tried this on my V10, and it appears to work well.
I think you still need to find the correct available refresh rates for your TV.
For my panasonic V10, they seem to be:
HorizSync 15.0 - 68.0
VertRefresh 23.0 - 61.0

It's possible they are ignored, and edid is used to set this up, but if you're gonna put them in the file, better make sure they're right.

FYI It looks like you should set
Quote:Option "ExactModeTimingsDVI" "False"
when using EDID.
Although I suspect it also gets ignored automatically.

Did You turn off overscan ("Powierzchnia obrazu" in polish menu) in your tv set?
