Convert 720p Video Collection Help
#1
I'm new to the forums, but have been reading a lot the past few days here, and searching.

I have a collection of 720p video from a variety of sources that I play on my HTPC. I have a 300GB HD in my classic xbox that I'd like to fill with video for taking to people's houses, on ski trips, that kind of stuff.

Ideally, I'd like to do a batch conversion of all my video, and I don't care if it takes a month, as long as it works. I've read the threads about xvid/divx, and I like what funkytown explained - but the staxrip instructions he posted don't seem to work for me, as the program I install looks completely different.

I think I'm most interested in going the divx avi route (max bit rate), since that seems to have the best results. What program is everyone recommending today for that? I like handbrake but I know they removed .avi support.

Thanks for the help in advance, sorry for the confusion.

Any response from anyone here? I notice it's got over 40 views, so either other people are wondering the same thing, or maybe I didn't express my question very well ...

Thanks in advance!!

you should try xvid4psp, i have been trying to figure this out for a couple years now. its better not to use the new xvid4psp 6.0 and use an older version. set the bitrate at one pass at 3000kbs and uncheck all the boxes in the video settings. set output container as avi and use xvid codec. as far as audio goes it depends. this is where i have recently ran into a few problems. i generally use ac3 at 192kbps since i have my xbox hooked up to a surround sound. the problem i have is with playing these on an xbox not hooked up to a sound system. the video seems to skip just a bit since the xbox has to decode the audio as well.

so if you are going to use a sound system then definitely go with ac3 but if not then just go with mp3. the alternative that i have recently been exploring is with the xvid4psp 6.0 you can set a constant bitrate which i think will help, but i had a few issues with audio so i need to try a few more times to get the settings right.

as far as doing a bunch of files in a row, its not as easy as one would hope but its doable. its easy in 6.0 but in the older version you have to click save, then add the next file then save etc. then you can click encode and it will do them all in a row. this process is made fast if you have a good graphics card and sound card because when you load the file it has to decode the sound first.

anyways i hope this has helped you. it is nice to hear someone else still using the xbox for hd stuff. I am definitely not an expert but i can try to help if you have any questions. also if you figure anything out let me know.

the one thing i have been trying to figure out is which skin to use. i have finally settled on pm3 hd. transparency works pretty good but hd files play better with the dvdplayer and transparency crashes when you try to play using dvdplayer. so i have been trying to figure out how to get as much free memory as possible on the pm3hd skin while still being able to use fanart.

sorry if this hasnt made sense. but let me know if i can help

Thanks for the reply. Sorry I didn't check the forum for a few days since I didn't hear anything initially. I do have the xvid4psp program, I just never sat down and used it much. I'll experiment with your suggested settings. Thank you.

I am open to any alternative suggestions, also.

I really recommend the funkytown's staxrip guide, It works really good (almost always), It's not that hard to do the conversion if You just read the first post and thoroughly follow it, I'm sure You will figure it out.
