i am reading posts in here, and it seems from some that the xbox remote will control media player *even* while not playing a dvd, but say an avi? is there some setup required to make this functional? i can not seem to get it to work?

does your remote work for any other software eg evox, unleashx, xbmp.
it should work fine. maybe change the port the remote is plugged into and check your keymap.xml
