Wrong assumption as it's not hard to test and it does not require formatting your machine, just install to an empty USB-stick and (temporary) change boot-sequence in the BIOS/UEFI settings to test OpenELEC, it will then only write to the USB-stick.

What branch did you try to build?

I see what happened. You also need to run ./mkpkg_kodi-retroplayer because I commented this out (see https://github.com/garbear/OpenELEC.tv/commit/e8557f0 ). I like these two scripts separate, so I'll update the build instructions in the OP to include ./mkpkg_kodi-retroplayer

New OpenELEC build uploaded. I missed a patch for Mupen64Plus that fixed input, so now that patch is included

tried building for raspberry pi2 latest build from github.

problems with SDL on ubuntu 14.04

WinEventsSDL.h:31:28: fatal error: SDL/SDL_events.h: No such file or directory

Is there a package that I'm missing on the host machine?

They are cross platform but you will be best with a linux distro.

git clone https://github.com/garbear/OpenELEC.tv
cd OpenELEC.tv/tools/mkpkg
./mkpkg_kodi-retroplayer
./mkpkg_kodi-retroplayer

then compile openelec following instructions on site.Depending on your target architecture, commands may vary.

i.e. For me(building for raspberry pi2), PROJECT=RPi2 ARCH=arm make release

Just read OpenELEC documentation, it's not that hard...

thanks for the IRC chat, we identified some missing SDL2 import in openelec that I hope will be fixed in next days. (importing SDL_event.h instead of SDL2_event.h)

I tried to build garbear's GIT sources last night but get stalled in here after running mkpkg scripts and compile as described:

I'm stuck at kodi compilation due to the SDL bug. Working on a PR right now

Solved, I forgot to run the ./tools/mkpkg/mkpkg_retroplayer script. Now compiling...
