Eventually, but as noted already, it's pretty easy to install from a file manager.

I seriously doubt it's as easy as just copying the APK file to the device. I'm sure it has to go into a proper instructions. You guys make jokes about Googling but I'm a multiple time donator to this project and just wanted to point out that I think there should be installation instructions here now that you have it as an official version of XBMC.

OK this was indeed very easy. There is an app in the market called "APK Installer". I just copied the XBMC APK and then ran the APK installer, browsed for the file, and boom I'm running XBMC. Maybe you should have a download page for Android explaining this, especially for people who are not very familiar with Android yet.

Yes it is that easy, I Google "sideload android app" and top hit is http://lifehacker.com/5943562/how-to-sid...droid-apps which contains all you need to know.

this thread is almost comedy gold.

I see no need to make fun of me. I don't see donator in your sig. I've supported this project multiple times and the amount of ridiculing threads is ridiculous. Just because someone is new to Android, doesn't mean you have to make fun of them.

If Team XBMC is going to offer an official Android version then they should post installation instructions, no matter how easy. Like if someone clicks the link to download the Android version it could up to page detail to download the app "APK Installer", copy the APK to the device, let the app find the APK and then you're good to go. People shouldn't have to go and Google and research it.

you have been told multiple times how to do it,and you ignored it.

I am sure team xbmc are delighted with your donations (and good for you) but obviously donating does not increase reading ability.

The reason it's funny was because you asked a genuine question which I read and answered but you continued to say how hard it was and how complicated it is to do.

How I install XBMC is I load it directly to my little cheap android box via USB (directly onto the internal memory) then I open the APK in the default file manager, and it starts the install process. No additional installer needed.

The easiest no fuss way to do this....

browse to this link on the browser on your tablet.. http://mirrors.xbmc.org/releases/android...bi-v7a.apk

That is the link directly from our download page.

it'll download. Either right from the notification bar or go to the download app and just click/select the file... it'll run the installer and you are done.

No need to install anything to prep. There is no need for an "APK installer app"... I'm guessing that is really just some sort of file browser anyway.

It's about the same procedure as you'd install the windows version.

The process of installing an app this way as opposed to the play store is called sideloading. Here will explain it all in great detail:

So there it is in a walkthrough.

To be honest, for someone not used to the Android eco-system it IS non-obvious, perhaps because of how easy it is.

Reason is that most folk have the understanding that it's hard because iOS is hard through anything other than the app store.

IMO a simple note on the download page will greatly reduce questions - it might be funny to some who are old hat, but it will very quickly become unfunny for those same people once Frodo final hits Wink

gabbott's instructions are perfect.

Cheers,
Jonathan

Any person used to the ridiculously complicated process of using iOS would almost undoubtedly be confused by how easy it is to install on Android. There's no denying it. I'll post a quick update to the download page to make this more clear.

You're not ready.

Yup, shutting this thread down now. Trolling an inexperienced user is lame and not how we want to represent ourselves on this forum.
