You see how long I've been waiting for an answer, guess no one really knows. I might just try the newest version and see what happens.
EDIT
The WIKI for Windows says Important: Please use only supported versions of the MySQL or MariaDB server. As of January 2019, this is MySQL in at least version 5.7 or MariaDB in at least version 5.5, but version 10.3+ is recommended
So I just installed V8.0.38 along with the Workbench on an extra PC I have and Kodi 21 is, as I type this, scanning in my movies. Not much of a test but I guess I'll see what happens.
Kinda sad the WIKI hasn't been updated in 5 years...
Was it pretty straightforward to update? I had also seen that there is a command needed to be added for 5.7 and above to the password does not expire
I am far from being well versed in MySql, in fact I'm a Super N00b...so I didn't seem to have an issue with the password thing...I could not import the data from the existing V5.6 export to a single file. There was some sort of error. I did let the new install scan in my movies, TV show and music. It SEEMS to have worked fine.
I installed Kodi 21 and then copied my entire \AppData\Roaming\Kodi folder from another PC
BEFORE I started Kodi I edited the advancedsettings.xml file to reflect the new IP and port for MySql. I used port 3304 because I still have Mysql running for my main system.
All the sources for my folders/files then existed in the fresh install of Kodi and I just used the context menu for each folder to set the content to the appropriate type for that folder and then let it scan each folder one at a time.
Today I want to check the 5.6 data against the 8.0.38 to see if anything might have been missed. But so far it went smooth. More time will tell and I think I may point one of my other kodi installs to it and see how that goes.
