Edit 2: just to check if my memory is still intact. I just brought the Dune R Plus back from V14 2463 to V12 5221 and checked VC-1 playback with their latest Dune Player app. The 23.976 sample play perfectly, the 29.970 one, not so much.

That is pure dedication. Bringing your Dune back from 14 to 12. Smile. How long did it take you? Did you have any worries that you may brick it?

Just the time a image flash and Google setup takes, and after that, recovery update takes (there was never a image file shared for the 5221 update), setup the network share and tested.
I never worry about a brick, I can play with those images and zips the way I want it to go Wink

Thanks both... obviously S905X4 hardware is capable of playing MPEG2 & VC-1 as you've verified @clarkss12 w/your Vero V. So, it seems more like software/firmware related when any variant can't (or do so well).

Thanks for replying, I can see the guide you make is excellent maybe its just me or the controller i'm using but I'm not having any luck.

I didn't realize the AMB6+ could play 2160p and everything else the odroid n2 can handle that is very useful.

When searching about the AMB6+ it looks like some users also have issues with that device and powering on with controller by default with coreelec.

Unless these are user errors or something what has been fixed in newer versions of coreelec.

I've been searching for the Minix U22XJ to replace my dead Am6+, but can't find it anywhere, not even on eBay Undecided I'm considering a 2nd gen cube instead, there's a local seller asking $65 for a new one.

What do I need to know? It's the same SOC as the AM6+, so it should be just as snappy? It mostly looks like it's more setup. Is anyone using one with coreelec and can give their experience?

With Cube 2, you'll find this thread at XDA very helpful. The main limitation is the 100M LAN, but using its USB2.0 port w/a gigabit ethernet adapter, you should be able to get 400+ Mbps (plenty even for the highest bitrate UHD rips).

Informative video on what DV FEL adds, from subtle to fairly dramatic in some movies. In fact, this YouTuber (who is the DoVi_Scripts author) is worth subscribing to; great channel. No audio in most of his videos as far as I can tell, but he has on-screen descriptions/captions to explain.

I have 2. They are great as a server.
Spot on. I use a N150 as my Plex server w/Ubuntu... great for outside-the-home streaming of your movies & shows, and Plexamp for music. Planning to set-up my own VPN server next. Looks like there are other cool 'headless' tools that Ubuntu is a good fit for.

Power/speed, and ability to play back problematic formats like MPEG2 & VC-1. FTV is worse for ads/clutter though, but there are single-button press ad-free launcher workarounds.

I did similar: AM6B+ mostly, and some FTV Cube 3 for Shield TV Pro. But, I do miss Shield Pro sometimes, a powerful box that can play anything w/o struggling. In testing Homatics, MPEG2 plays all pixelated/blocky, and VC-1 struggles as well as @clarkss12 has pointed out. Finding AM6B+ fares better with both formats, which is (for me) more valuable than AV1 playback capability w/Homatics.
Do you use a Plex server and then play your content from Kodi with the Plex extension? Do you think that an N97 or N100 proc is sufficient for a media server for 4K DV remux?

Inside the home: Kodi. Outside: Plex.

Yes, from what I've read, N97 or N100 will do the job for Plex for 4K DV remuxes. But, a N150 for just $126 like now is hard to resist.
