Release CetonTV+HDHomeRun - Watch TV on XBMC (WIN/OSX)
ViperJPB Wrote:So I do not have a XBMC setup yet and am completely a Noob. However I have lots of experience in building computers and was planning on building an HTPC to get rid of my cable box. But from browsing this forum.... am I reading correctly that with this plugin in XBMC and an infiniTV 4 USB tuner....I could get all my TV over a little Apple TV box!? Would you recommend the Apple TV route or a windows based machine? If I went the Windows route I may just purchase a Pulse-Eight box. The updated 1080P Apple TV came out today with the new iPad. That might be a viable option. Thoughts?

My recommendation: go for a silent ION PC with XBMCBuntu or OpenElec on it. You can find them around $140. You don't even need a hard drive, everything runs from a $4 USB flash drive. You get a great 1080p XBMC with all the plug-ins (ESPN Live, Hulu...) and now, thaks to these guys, live TV... (Not only that: with the transcoding functions so neatly implemented, take you little ION box with you anywhere in the world, and as long you have your PC on, you have live TV)

The new AppleTV will be a great option but it will take some time until iOS 5.1 is jailbroken and XBMC is ported and tested to the new device...

mcheng89 Wrote:@LehighBri: Will give you deinterlacing today Smile (Its a simple change but I've been lazy Undecided )

@ViperJPB: You need one windows computer to run the program...
Then you can use a AppleTV, iPad/iPhone, Web browser + VLC, XBMC to watch tv anywhere Smile

I'll be back later...

Thanks for the quick response mcheng! So the windows machine runs the program and then streams to the iOS devices? Or you need the windows machine to get XBMC and the plugins on the AppleTV? Thx again.

Do the ION machines have enough oomph for full bit-rate 1080i cable broadcasts? Cuz I would love to go that route. Can you point me in the right direction system wise. Love to build one but if buying a pre-done setup is easier hey.

Prime, but it could support dual too if I make some changes. Do you have a dual?
Does dual have the C:\Program Files\Silicondust\HDHomeRun\hdhomerun_config.exe program too?

v1.9.1 released. Just iOS webapp fixes

K looking at ION based systems. What's a recommendation for remote controls? Is there a plugin or hack to use the iPhone or iPad or is a traditional remote better?

Yes I have a dual... It does have the hdhomerun_config.exe
It would be great if you added support for the dual Big Grin

I cant help you with that since I dont have one... maybe uspino will answer when he comes back. But I would assume theres a iPhone/iPad hack since its just XBMC on ubuntu, right? I'm sure ubuntu has something...

Todo for tonight:
- Fill in XBMC info bar
- Channel logo api
- Deinterlace

Don't tell anyone becuase they are going to be sold out and I still want to buya couple more, but a Shuttle XS35GT with Nvidia ION is passively cooled (meaning totally silent) and runs OpenElec smother than a i7 desktop. 1080i? That's nothing. You can throw 1080p at the highest bitrates: no sync issues, no hiccups. You can find a really cheap barebones and you only need to add 1Gb of RAM and a cheapo USB flash drive.

For remote, OpenElec runs great with any MCE-Certified remote, no set up needed, but you can certainly use an iPhone/iPad with any of the many XBMC remote apps in the App Store.

And RemoteCeton works great with it, either direct streaming or transcoded video. If you take the XBMCBuntu road, you also get a full-featured Chrome browser on your TV, but OpenElec is just so perfect...

Thanks Mcheng. Couple more questions for ya. This setup of yours will utilize all of the Ceton USB setting right? Even setting up scheduled recordings etc? I want to ditch the cable box. But my wife also needs to be able to use it. Wink
