Kai, does it work directly from the xbox with a router?
#1
Hi there,

Is there anyway i can get kai on my xbmc to work with my router? the xbmc centre is connected already, but kai doesnt want to connect.. im using my login details and password in xbmc. Is there anyway i can play online without the use of a pc?

Thanks for any help ppl.

Btw, im using a d-link air plus g, router, within the router config theres an option for xbox support and upnp, both are enabled. Would this allow me to connect xlink kai directly ?

one more thing, if it wont work without a pc, then is there a way i can run the pc, but not have to connect it to the xbox, as im using the ethernet port on my pc for the router, im trying to avoid using a 2nd ethernet for the xbox. Both the xbox and the pc are connected directly to the router, is there someway i can run the engine on the pc, and have the xbox connect to the kai engine without a direct connection, ie - thru the router? i ask this because the xbox is able to see the pc's workgroup, file sharing etc.. surely it would be able to work with kai.

sure, (you just open the ports that XLink KAI uses in the router), but I'm not sure if you really mean that you have the Xbox connected to your PC through the router (with one of them connected to the routers WAN-port), I instead suspect that you have the Xbox and the PC connected to the as most routers have a built-in switch. Maybe you can draw a diagram of all ports on the router (pointing out which port is the WAN-port, which one internet is connected to, etc.) to describe your setup better.

Note! XBMC only have a XLink KAI control-client built-in, one you start a game that is shut-off, so you need to have a the XLink KAI tunneling-program (the engine) running on a other device on your local network, now that device doesn't have to be a PC, if your router runs linux (or if you have a other device that runs linux) then is it may be possible to install the XLink KAI tunneling-program (the engine) on that device, however if you do not have a compatible linux device then you need to install the XLink KAI tunneling-program (the engine) on a computer that needs to be running on your local network for you to tunnel through that from your Xbox.
Always read the XBMC online-manual, FAQ and search the forum before posting.
Do not e-mail XBMC-Team members directly asking for support. Read/follow the forum rules.

Wow,

Thanks for all the info Smile

This is my setup,

My router offers 4 wlan ethernet ports and a wireless connection.. Im not using the wireless connection. My pc is connected to one of the wlan ports via ethenet and my xbox is also connected to a wlan port via ethernet.

Ild love to be able to run kai on the pc, but be able to use the kai engine without the xbox being actually connected directly that pc. Instead, using my setup, is the xbox able to connect to the pc via the router to use kai?

Thanks ever so much for ur help.

yes .. you should be fine with what you have .. install kai and see what happens :]

don't use XBMC to connect to kai until after you can use the PC version to play online .. load halo2 , go to system link , load kai on the PC , pick your arena, and play :]

does kai detect your xbox ? .. click the magnifying glass at the top of kai and than click the little folder under the '?' .. it should show you if it sees your console or not .. put halo2 in the search for games screen before doing that ..

is anything wireless ? .. what firewalls do you have ? .. anti virus ?

putting the xbox in DMZ is not necessary , you only need to forward 1 port for kai and thats to the PC running the engine ..

load the kai config and select the network card that connects to the router/xbox instead of autodetect ..
