Confluence Modified
(2013-09-21, 14:36)SpaceMonkey Wrote: Separate buttons for power, favourites and search won't come back. For a skin to be used with a remote these don't make any sense imho. I will try to keep most of the mouse navigation working that exists in Confluence builtin, but i won't add any more mouse support.

Just out of interest, why don't separate buttons make sense for a remote? With the horizontal menu there's a ton of space below the menu bar which is where the shutdown button used to live in 1.0.8 and it seemed to work out fine - I could access when I wanted to, and ignore it at all other times.

What I don't like about having Search and Shutdown *in* the menu bar is that I very rarely use these functions but in v1.0.9 I now have to skip past them when navigating the menu to access Movies, Music, Videos, TV Shows etc. Having these functions moved off and out of the menu bar would mean I access them only when I *want* to, and not have to avoid them the rest of the time which is what I'm having to do now. Disabling Search and Shutdown completely isn't really an option for me, as I still want to access them, just not very often.

To be honest, I was completely happy with the Shutdown button in the bottom left of the screen - and I'm a remote control user. You could even put Search there too.

At the risk of sounding like a right moaner, I'm also not convinced by the changes to the Recently Added/Recommended posters/episodes bar - I like the fact the posters are now larger, but I don't like the continuous background bar within which they now sit, and as previously mentioned, the "gloss" effect" applied to each poster.

With the continuous background bar, the whole effect seems a bit more "brutal" and less attractive, particularly on lighter coloured fanart/backgrounds. "Boxing" each item with transparent gaps between items would seem to result in a more aesthetically pleasing effect, at least to me. The current posters and episodes have nice frames around them now, so there seems no need for the continuous black bar (of course the titles still need a dark background).

Could you consider adding an option to disable the continuous background bar?

Good job on kinda breaking the experience on your own skin by removing the seperate shutdown and favorites button. Why are developers so desperate to change vital features without leaving an option for the user to choose from?
That's exactly the same story with the original Confluenece skins when they decided to remove the option to have different background for each tab.

Rubbish. Any way to downgrade or do I have to search a new skin (again)?

Ok in defence of Spacemonkey. He is designing a skin for himself. If other seem to like it, great. IF you don't like it (anymore) move along and search for one you do like.
He isn't getting paid like almost every one here so be grateful he is sharing it.

I have to agree. (Not that I always agree with XBMC-team forum feedback, which can sometimes be a tad brutal! We're dealing with end-users, not fellow developers ;-) )

I've gotten used to both of these skin changes and they now make sense to me. I actually love being able to see more items in the widgets (though I guess I wouldn't decline a little border).

I also noticed that the Quit menu automatically hides unavailable options on the pi, too. And it's even further customizable in Skin Settings.
Plus, hitting 'enter' on the menu does the same as the old button. So I did need to train up the Mrs, but she was cool with it once I did.

This skin is still my #1 recommendation for low-power devices; especially the pi!

So thanks, spacemonkey!

I went to the addons screen and did a rollback to the old version and got the missing shutdown and favorites buttons back. I also set it to not auto update. I'm going to give it a while for the dust to settle and try it again...

How exactly did you do that? The rollback option seems to be greyed out.

Edit: Oh well, I shouldn't have uninstalled the entire AddOn. Switched to CCM.

This is the last time i will defend my decision: because of the bigger and wider widgets i moved the now playing info's to the bottom left corner. Theoretically i could consider maybe at some time consider putting them maybe above the main menu bar, where the controls for the currently playing media are. So the search, favourites and power would all be there as small icons.

But that's just theoretically, whining and reminding me about it won't help. Everyone are free to fork my Github repo, work on it for a year (on and off), share it here so that i can start the whining and telling you what's wrong with it.

That being said, update is available that should fix (hide) the problem with the recommended content.

I'm sorry you consider what I thought were constructive comments to be whining. With that kind of attitude I see it's going to be easier to move on to another skin than continue with any head-banging discussion.

Hmm. I consider myself a pretty level-headed fellow, and had I been the developer and read the previous page in this thread, I would have been quite a bit more indignant than Spacemonkey. In fact, I'd probably have provided the link to GitHub for the collective reference of the complainers, and wished them luck on their journey. I think that's the aggregate affect of the posts on that page. Master Reuter did not help your cause.
