its broken for me in the whole frodo release cycle and still broken in gotham. i kind of depend on it on my projector though :/

(Using DXVA)

Zoom works as expected.

PS: is there a hidden function somewhere to crop the image like in mediaportal? it really helps with hiding spoilers at viewing sports events without destroying the image (zoom / shift)

I have a question on this feature, but didn't want to open a new topic for this question.
First of all, vertical shift works for me in Frodo; I am am using dsplayer since I need frame interpolation (using SVP) to make 3d movies running smoothly.

My question, however, is: 'For some movies, I can shift the picture vertically "line by line". The info in XBMC displays a value for shifting ranging from -2.00 to +2.00 while i use this function (it reads "Vertikale Verschiebung" in German) . In some movies this is different: until values are between -1.00 to +1.00, nothing happens at all, while values below or above this range shift the screen very fast ( so that a precise adjustment is not possible anymore). I looked into the codec information of some of these movies (w. MediaInfo), and I don't see significant differences except from the aspect ratio. It seems to me, that vertical shift hast problems with aspect ratios 16:9 or 1,85:1 and works OK with 2,40:1 or 2,35:1. Can I fix this?

Movie where it is working OK:
3753 Kbps, 1920*900 (2,40:1), 23,976 FPS AVC (high @ L4.1) cabac 5rf
4758 Kbps, 1280*528 (2,40:1), 23,976 FPS AVC (high @ L4.1) cabac 5rf
10.5 Mbps, 1920*800 (2,40:1) 24,000 FPS AVC (high @ L4.1) cabac 5rf
9971 kbps, 1920*816 (2,35:1) , 23,976 FPS AVC (high @ L4.1) cabac 5rf

Movie where it doesn't work propperly:
10,3 Mpbs, 1904*1064 (16:9), , 23,976 FPS AVC (high @ L4.1) cabac 5rf
7204 Kbps, 1920*1040 (1,85:1), 23,976 FPS AVC (high @ L4.1) cabac 4rf
1920*1072 (16:9), 25,000 FPS AVC (high @ L4.1) cabac 9rf

I am still trying to figure out how to solve it. Did anyone have an idea, meanwhile?

I can confirm that it works from +1.00 and from -1.00. Anything between that doesn't have any effect. This applies to all movies rendered with DXVA for me, not ratio or resolution specific.

Merry X-max to everyone btw Wink

Hey there,

i'm glad to find out that vertical shift in fact works on my KODI Helix setup, but as mentioned only at +1.00 and above and at -1.00 and below. (Which is okay for me...)

More (small) info here:

Quote: Milestone changed from Future / Pending to 11.0

I made one change to it, shift range -1 to 1 will shift inside the black bars, ranges -2 to -1 and 1 to 2 will shift the image outside the screen. This way you can set a default of 1 and have all videos aligned to the bottom edge.

The original intention has been, that a setting of "+1.00" should always move the picture to the bottom of the screen without further need to change the setting via the slider.
Over time some things must have changed and now everything up so +1.00 does nothing.

Interesting find:
When downscaling a 4K-file (21:9 format) to 1920x1080, +1.00 does exactly as what it should do by original intention. The image is moved down to the bottom of the screen.

Since i only want to move the image down, i set vertical shift to +1.00 as default for all files, so i don't have to put up with the dead zone between 0.00 and +1.00. From there i adjust it manually...

Just my 2 cents

Edit:
On second thought: Since i only tested with 21:9 files, which are in fact marked as 16:9 within the container, maybe it's just right that vertical shift does nothing until reaching +1.00?
Well, doesn't matter that much. Hopefully everyone who thinks vertical shift does not work finds out within this thread, that it does work.Wink

I thought this was broken for the longest time!  In fact I do need to hold "left" for quite some time to scroll through every value from -0.00, -0.01, -0.02, -0.03 ..... -0.98, -0.99, -1.00 and nothing happens.  Then finally at -1.01 it shifts just a little bit up, and keeps going a little bit for every 0.01 past there!  (I'm right now watching 4:3 SD content in 4:3; it's mostly letterboxed but the subtitles at the bottom are cut off if I zoom.)

Is this how it's supposed to work?!
