Fast Forward and Rewind Cache Size on LiveTV
#1
How do i control how big the cache is for the fast forward and rewind while watching live TV?

I have already tried settings

<advancedsettings>
<pvr>
<minvideocachelevel>60</minvideocachelevel>
<minaudiocachelevel>60</minaudiocachelevel>
</pvr>
</advancedsettings>

as well as playing with the cachememberbuffersize. But, I seem to only get less than 10 seconds forward or back.

Is this controlled in WMC, ServerWMC, or XBMC?

Those xbmc settings don't apply to the pvr settings. serverwmc keeps the whole cache from the time you change to the channel to the current time. I use skip forward and backward to navigate within the stream.

Is it an XBMC PVR problem that the normal FF/RW doesn't work over a longer cache? It seems that the granularity of these buttons is preferred over the skip buttons.

I did try the skip forward/back, and this does allow me to move over the bigger cache length. Although, i am not able to easily land on the start of the program after a commercial break is finished.

I think the fact that xbmc can't fast forward or rewind on the ts stream I give it is probably the fault of the stream I am generating, but I am not enough of a video guy to understand why. Getting some help by a real video/ffmpeg guy has always been a holy grail of this project. However, so far we have only seen grail shaped beacons Smile.

Even since I used tivo, ages ago, I preferred skip. I didn't like watching the ff stream and trying to hit the button at the right time. I think what works best is to skip forward in 30s intervals and skip back in 10s. With that you can quickly get through ad breaks, and if you find you went forward further then you like, the short skip back will get close enough to the end of the ad break. But that's just me.

Is there a 30s skip function available in the client?
