0.28 is not released. You are using master.
Unlikely you'll find the pvr addon authors updating to what is effectively an alpha or beta.

I'm surprised that this is a problem. XBMC isn't even seeing Myth recordings.
What typically goes wrong? How would I go about determining the problem?

Myth often changes its database structure between releases. If cmyth doesn't know how to acceess an 0.28 database, that would present problems.

Yes indeed the schema did just go up two notches. I guess it'll be beyond me to do something about it.
But I do maintain the R5000-HD patch, so if anyone wants a current version that works with the latest Myth nightlies, speak.

It is more than schema, mythtv team changes the protocol in which the frontend's communicate with the backend. The PVR addon is simulating this communication much like a native client would and therefore it may or may not work.

Well maybe I'll never be able to use xbmc then, as I stay up with the nightlies. Wish there was a solution.

Has anyone compared XBMC with the MythMediaStream theme? Are there functional or aesthetic differences? IOW why choose XBMC?

People like to have everything 'under one roof' and use xbmc for everything.
Personally I agree the real mythfrontend is much better then xbmc pvr.

The native mythtv frontend is great if mythtv is the majority of your needs. I personally choose to use xbmc because I think it handles local media better and it goes around shared Linux libraries to give much superior video playback in my opinion. Not to mention it also works on Windows, Android, and some appl!e hardware. However I do use the myth frontend for more robust management of recording schedules and control. Xbmc is also a little more user friendly I think. I found a script that allows me to map the power button on my remote to toggle myth frontend and xbmc if your interested. Dm me if you want it. I would also never use myth night lies as if my TV stops working because a nightly broke something my wife and mother in law would make my ears bleed.

I have to say since I was last in this thread, my myth-xbmc experience has got better. openelec 4 beta (up to beta 5 now) works really well with mythtv 0.27. I'd still really like to be able to build a mythfrontend addon for openelec so I could use mythfrontend occasionally for those very same tasks as you - management of recording schedules and control. Still, mythweb is nice too.
Your best source of mythtv packages is the mythbuntu repo and stick to the current version (presently 0.27). If you use the mythbuntu repo you actually get 0.27-fixes rebuilt every time a fix is ported back into 0.27.
Usability for just watching recorded stuff - I'm not sure. But I sure find myth's menus quite clunky now that I am spending more time in XBMC.

Yeah I've got a basic add on to quit xbmc and launch mythfrontend when needed, but I use that less and less - xbmc's PVR has come a long way + mythtv can be frustratingly convoluted (you'll never hear me complain about finding a setting in xbmc after spending way too much time finding one in mythtv.)
