Yeah I know what you mean, I just happen to have keyboard/mouse thing but the real problem is MouseWithOutBoarders. When I'm on my laptop I like to zip the mouse over to the HTPC now and again. I guess I should stop doing that :-) Once the mouse is over to HTPC screen I can use the laptop keyboard arrows to skip

This is a problem that I don't have because I run my XBMC on OpenElec. OpenELEC is a project that puts XBMC on a barebones installation of Linux. You install it directly onto a PC and it converts that PC into a XBMC only device. It boots into XBMC in a few seconds and I only use it for watching TV. I only connected a keyboard and mouse for the initial installation and configuration. Once that was done, I use nothing other than the IR Remote receiver that came with my MCE Remote, and I had my URC RF20 Universal Remote learn all the commands from the MCE Remote Control.

So, no mouse for me.

OpenElec is very cool, I'll have to try it just for kix if anything. (and so I'm experienced if anyone else wants it) I'll be using Windows 8.1 but doesn't mean I can't try a dual boot or pop in a test drive to give it a whirl.

Another favorite app of mine is http://www.airserver.com/
(Let's me AirPlay Video and even Mirror iOS devices) I'm happy XBMC has built in Airplay Audio at the very least though.

I have to go back to this suggestion. I'm about to install and try MCEbuddy now so I don't have to skip commercials at all. Did you install the ShowAnalyzer? I'm not sure if "some countries" refers to the USA or not.

P.S. here is the proper profile to use in MCEbuddy, it's called WTV (Unprocessed)

I have found that it also trims the beginning and the end of the show (a few frames) and also does a bit more than each commercial....

Are you using the new Beta 15 from Feb 2014? I read that it's much more accurate now. I'll report my findings after I use it awhile. If it's not good, I'll try the ShowAnalyzer option.

Ok so back on Topic,

I now know that the keyboard short cuts left and right arrows only work when the screen has not had the mouse moved at all. (no cursor visible)

If the mouse has been moved and the cursor is on the screen arrow left and right no longer skips, it moves the on screen selection around instead

Is there any way to force XBMC to respond to skip forward/back commands while in the mouse moved state?

According to this the "." and "," skip forward and backwards as well. I just tested it and again only works if the screen is in a non mouse moved state.

I'd really like to figure out a way to quickly skip forward / backward. I'm going to be watching TV in XBMC non full screen on my second computer sometimes and I don't want to wait for the mouse to stop moving ever time I want to skip around.

Any suggestions? Is this where the keyboard.xml and other separate xml files come into play?

Worst case I just hit the Esc or Backspace key before using arrows to skip ahead. (not too bad)

There is a setting somewhere to disable mouse controls, will that solve your problem?

I was using what I believed to be the latest free version. Is the beta free, or do you have to buy into the early access program?

Has anyone noticed that the responsiveness for skipping is not as good as Media Center?

For example, with Media Center, I could very quickly tap skip forward 6 times and I know it would jump 3 minutes ahead (30 seconds x 6)

With XBMC, if I press skip "." or Right Arrow on the keyboard TOO FAST it will only catch maybe 3 out of 6 presses. If I press and wait between hits, it keeps up.

Can or Will this be addressed?

It probably has something to do with XBMC is optimized for H.264/XviD Video Files, and we are using .WTV bloated huge MPEG 2 files. I'll look around, but the rest of the XBMC forums are a bit overwhelming and Linux heavy users.

step 1 would be to see how skip behaves when watching a regular video file such as a downloaded TV show or whatever
