I took a look at this today, what I found:

1. Some of the weird behavior you may have been seeing is that serverwmc currently requires a restart if you change the channel order (name vs number). I had forgotten that. I will fix this in the next release, so that this is no longer required.
2. There was a bug that if you chose 'Full Service Name' for channels it still sorted by callsign. This has been fixed.
3. I can't recall if you are using gotham or not, but I noticed in looking at this today Gotham has gotten rid of the 'Use channel order from the backend', option. So in gotham I can only order by channel number. Does anyone know if this option has moved in Gotham? Or is it just dead?

It sounds like you hit the main ones, great improvement. That should help new people avoid confusion. The following imports were all using the same exact settings, with reboots of the entire machine in between. You can see how the results slowly morphed into the final which is weird. I was thinking about this last night and wondering if maybe WMCServer could have been pulling cached information at first. I can't exactly wrap my head around how that would not be fully corrected past a reboot there. Does WMCServer store the channel order in memory for the transfer or in a file maybe? The file is the only way it could have been stored past reboot or potentially garbled in between.

The following was only changing ServerWMC and XBMC settings. The Windows Medica Center settings remained constant the whole time.

Maybe changing the settings is doing something. It seems I had to hit all the ServerWMC settings several times for it to finally change completely to the last correct order. I'd been trying one off settings before and kept returning to the original right after with no change.

Regardless, I'm very happy with the results now that its showing the correct data.

Any idea on the music channels?

Serverwmc doesn't store the channels anywhere, it reads them into memory from the epg database when it starts up (at least that's the way it works in the version you have). The above behavior is freaking bizarre. All I can think is that the database is not getting the channel changes from wmc, but assuming wmc was the same each time you rebooted that wouldn't make sense either. I will need to experiment with this some more. I assuming you are running stock wmc/epg.

Well hmmm. Yes, WMC is win 7 ulitmate, manual scan to detect most QAM channels, manual entry to finish the rest, all mapped to the corresponding cable EPG for my area which broadcast digital on different channels. All channels renamed so that they have clean logical numbering related to the local channel. All that by itself is a lot of manual work and all of it done in Windows Media Center.

I usually leave WMC Server alone as the base settings are what I need. I Set XBMC to TV Settings to enabled and only have "Always use the channel order from Backends(s)".

In this instance, after all the above was setup, I went back to Windows Media Center and set all channels re-ordered so that the channels are logically ordered in the EPG. When I refreshed the PVR database in XBMC the changes weren't propagated. That is when I started changing settings and rebooting like mad to refresh everything until finally getting the results I wanted back at the originals settings above. I agree, its a very strange behavior.


The music issue is that in XBMC, none of my detected QAM music channels are recognized as music channels, which causes the extra complication of XBMC not being able to play them because no video information is present. But you can see they are detected as music and playable as music in Windows Media Center:

xbmc may not detect them as music channels (i.e. channels with no video) but it should play them. If when you play them nothing happens then then give me a link to the server log.

I can't tell why its not working from the log, but you are right that the remux is crashing out. By way of background, the only other person who asked to play audio only channels was a guy in the UK, he sent me some sample clips, so I just double checked to make sure they still work and they do. So I wonder what is different about yours. When you can, record a short clip (one minute will be plenty) and put the resulting wtv file here:

I posted a sample to the google drive folder. I first tried to use XBMC to record but it simply provided an error modal to check the logs. I then opened WMC, navigated to the music channel and created a small 5 minute manual recording. Once completed, I was able to play it from XBMC's Recordings folder without issue. Let me know if you need anything more. I'm happy to assist.

Could be. There could also just be a bonehead bug with manual record that no one has ever caught because no one ever uses it. You might try it on a non-radio station just to see if it works..

Manual recordings of non radio channels work great. I use them all the time I dont go looking for bugs, they just find me!

just throwing this in here, but we dont support "radio channels" as such... when XBMC asks for radio channels we just return an empty list. Im not sure we know how to identify them as radio channels in WMC

I have also noticed the remuxer crashes when no video is present, at the time it was when we were debugging those truncated streams and when there ended up being no video streams the warning would be logged then the remuxer would crash. At the time i guess the foxcus was on the fact that there should have been video present and we then put in place the solution that ensured that the video tracks were correctly identified and thus included. But since there is a legitimate case when no video is present, i guess we need to look at stopping the remuxer from crashing. Ideally we would have a static video display the name of the radio channel and the fact that it is playing. Alternatively if we can identify these channels propertly, we could flag to XBMC they are radio channels and then you would access them through XBMC radio channel interface rather than the tv channels
