The general problem here though is that most EPG providers don't have a concept of Season and Episode, and certainly not one that matches thetvdb.com. That makes it hard (or guesswork) to get a naming format that XBMC agrees with.

By the way, what is a scrapper? I'll tell you, a scrapper is a fighter, ie someone who scraps.

I think you mean a scraper, ie something that scrapes.

MythTV already gets all the data from thetvdb.com Thats what the lookupmetadata function does. In fact it stores the tvdb id of the show in the MySQL database, and when you view shows in mythtv it also shows the sXXeXX number which xbmc does not. I am beginning to think this is a limitation of cmyth. However when viewing the recorded shows under LiveTV in xbmc it also pulls show poster, and background Image from Myth, (which myth got from thetvdb) so it can pull some stuff.

It was a user job in Myth .25 and was its own thing in Myth .26. How many people do you think are using this and not using Myth .26 or .27. The only reason I haven't moved to .27 is because one of my TVs uses an openelec box, and they aren't going to make Gotham builds until at least an RC is out.

Its even an option in the XBMC Recording template if you choose to override the Myth TV one. Currently if I am going to set up a new series to record I still use MythTV or Mythweb to do as that isn't really robust in XBMC, and quiet frankly I don't need it to be. The day XBMC becomes the only front end you need for MythTV is the day that the MythTV devs stop making a front end for MythTV.

The current openelec betas support myth 0.27.

I have slightly lost track of what you are trying to acheive here.

Are you wanting the shows recorded by mythtv to appear in the TV Shows section of XBMC?

Yes, but with the caveat that I am using the "TV Recordings" source option in XBMC.

I wasn't even aware that was an option, it doesn't appear on my work computer's xbmc when pressing 'browse' when setting up a video source, but perhaps that's because I don't have a pvr setup at work.

Yes. You need a pvr set up. The main reason I want to do it through this mechanism is because commercial skipping would stay in. If I create a bunch of soft links and just have xbmc load that directory, it will think it is just an ordinary media source.

It appears the problem is in the scrapping, which kind of happens...but fails

If anyone is using MythTV .27 and can verify that it works fine, and that the shows show up in TV shows, that would be great. Currently the the show titles only show up in TV shows. So Justified would show up, but when I select the show, there is nothing on the next level.

It works on my Gotham install against a 0.27 backend. However there is no indication on the recording date, so I have 20 copies of 3 News (my nightly News programme) and no idea which is the latest.

I prefer the PVR LiveTV functionality. I am not sure what the advantage of putting this in "files" as opposed to "pvr" is?

I've already done a bit of work for getting the recordings into the library some months ago:

XBMC does the scraping based on the season and episode and relies on that information being available from the addon.
One first step therefore is to extend the recording title by " - SXXEXX" when passing it over from the addon to XBMC.

All this relies also on the season and episode being available in MythTV from your EPG provider. You can check the recording table
if that data is present. The EPG service I'm using doesn't provide it and that's also why I didn't continue to work on it.
You're welcome to build the addon using the branch above. If it works for you, I can push it also to official addon master branch.

One downside of having it in the library is btw that synchronizing the watched state with the backend won't work
because XBMC loses the information that it's a recording.

So it did not work for you because it shows up in files and not in TV shows. That is the same problem I have.

Thanks Christian. I will definitely dive in and check it out. I am not sure if Myth TV gets the Season and episode info from the EPG or from its lookup metadata function for me. If you ever get a change you should check out the perl script it uses for metadata lookup. I think it actually takes the episode name from the EPG, or the original air date, and use that to look up the sXXeXX info. Either way, when I am looking at my shows from the myth tv front end, the sXXeXX info shows up.

Its interesting that the watched state doesn't sync when in the library, since I believe it does sync if I go to Videos -> Files -> and navigate to the source content. Does that mean commercial skipping doesn't work either then?

Hi cfetzer. So I think I i got your version built and installed. I downloaded the zip from git, and extracted it, then ran,

./bootstrap
./configure --enable-addons-with-dependencies
sudo make install

Everything completed without error. The behavior didn't change in XBMC though. I had an existing build of Beta 3 with the myth addon already enabled and running on my system. I re-added the TV Recordings source, but I did not uninstall, reinstall the myth plugin. Am I missing something. Link to a log file on debug below.
