Recordings close live tv and viewing recordings on a secondary drive
#1
Question
I'm guessing what I'm seeing is from the PVR add in so I thought I would start here.

I'm using Frodo 12.3 right now.

When I'm watching live TV and a scheduled recording starts XBMC jumps back to the start screen. Then I have to go back and re-select the channel I was watching and everything is OK. This happens every time a recording starts.

The other oddity I'm seeing will take a short explanation. I have a main HTPC in the living room, and another HTPC in the bedroom. On the HTPC in the living room I have 2 hard drives that I use to store recorded TV. When the main one gets too full I copy some shows over to the secondary drive.

What I noticed is on the living room PC everything is good, but when I go into Recordings on the bedroom PC the only recorded shows I see are the ones on the main hard drive. I assume this is because of the way I have to set up the ServerWMC to point to the WMC recorded TV folder. Is there any way to see what's on both drives on a remote PC? I am planning to get a larger hard drive so everything is on one drive at some point, but not right now.

Thanks for your time

Can you give us some more details:

Are you saying (when a recording starts) that live tv is still playing, it just overlays it with the xbmc gui?

Are you watching the channel that the recording is going to start on?

How many tuners do you have available to view/record this channel?

On the second problem, you have to make the second folder a 'watched' folder in wmc (which I assume you have done already). But for it to be visible on the remote client it needs to be a network share AND you need to specify the watched folder as a network (UNC) path, not a local path. You can either do this from inside of wmc (just delete the locall path to the watched folder and replace it with a network path to the same folder), Or you can do it with regedit
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Media Center\Service\Recording\WatchedFolders

Not sure what happened to my first reply, but here is what I'm seeing:

I'm watching a TV show, and when a scheduled recording starts Live TV shuts down and I'm returned to the main XBMC window with the menu. I go into the channel list and reselect the channel I was watching and it works fine after that, until the next recording starts. It doesn't seem to matter if it's the same channel I'm watching or different. The show I'm recording gets recorded fine, so I would think the tuners are working correctly.

I have 4 tuners on a Ceton InfiniTV card. I never saw this kind of behavior when I was using it with just WMC.

The second thing I mentioned, what you said makes perfect sense. I'm not sure why I didn't think of that.

Thanks for not abusing me about that Confused

Does that make it clearer?

lol, no problem.

I seems like what is happening is that the recording service is taking the tuner from swmc. I don't know why that would be, the rec service usually takes the first unused tuner it finds before it starts taking tuners away from serverwmc. The next step is to provide a serverwmc log after this problem happens. Even better if you can restart serverwmc - and the live stream - just before a scheduled recording is about to start, just to simplify the log. Then put the log on pastebin.com and post a like here.

I'll get a log generated soon. I haven't had time the past couple days. Thanks for helping.

If I am understanding this correctly, I experience the same behavior.

Example:

Watching channel 46, live tv, time is 5:55 pm.
Recording schedule for channel 46 at 6:00pm.
Once 6:00 pm hits, live TV is stopped, and I am returned to the menu.
The recording starts, and records correctly, but the stream stops.

I assume this is normal behavior since the stream playing stops so that the 'recording' can begin to save to a new file specific for the recorded program?

Yeah, this is normal. It will only happens if the channel you are watching happens to be the same channel that is about to record. In this case the windows rec service annoyingly thinks it should use the tuner that is already tuned to that channel, which kills the xbmc stream when it grabs it. So far we have not found a way to stop this from happening. To keep viewing the show, you have to start viewing the recording or re-open the live stream (but I bet you knew that already).

The OP seemed to be saying it happens even if the recroding was starting on a different channel, that's why I was trying to get clarification.
