Hmmmm, I got it working on xbmcbuntu 13 yesterday after a fresh installby manually downloading the plugin, opening the zip, and editing the addon.xml file. The line requiring python 2.0 just had to be changed to 2.1.0
rezipped the folder, sent it to my xbmcbuntu machine. (I put the zip on one of the external harddrives.)
On xbmc went to the addon's section, selected install from zip, navigated to the zip and it installed fine. The program found my my AP and connected.
There may be problems depending on the hardware, Ubuntu still has issues with some wifi cards which require the use of the additional drivers menu in Ubuntu being opened. But if this program did work for you on frodo I could upload my zip

Edit, just downloaded script.linux.nm-0.4 and edited the addon.xml and repacked it.
Give this a try and see if it works.
